Partition problems

Hello all..i tried to install ubuntu to try it out so i made the partitions in partition magic and did the install..when all was done i couldn't get linux to boot it'll just go to xp..so i figured the hell with this lol and decided against it..went back to partition magic to delete the partitions i just made and i see this

everything in the task area is greyed out so i can't choose anything..when i right click i can choose to set it active? but i get this error message

i noticed it said fix mbr so i went to windows recovery console and fixed it to see if it'll work..and nothing..

anyone know how i can either get the partitions back or get ubuntu to run properly? thanks

dunno much bout linux, but i ALWAYS do my partitions is dos. I would never use a software to partition my hard drive, or format it. Not sure what you can do now, but id recommend that in future you do it in dos.

have you tried using the software again to see if the partition can be repaired or something?

the one time i used partition magic it fubar'd my partitions so i always just use a fresh drive or do patritionining in the installer if i can.

yeah i tried and everything is greyed out when i click on the partition

So have you tried doing the beginnings of a standard XP install and using the tool it has inbuilt for deleting & creating partitions? I have had to use that trick a few times myself... Boot to the CD and begin the process... when it finds the drive, have it delete all partitions, and then create one for the install, start the install then pull the plug and you should have a 'normally' partitioned drive to with what you want.
