As a person who is running both a T-bird system and P3 systems, I can tell you that the AMD procs are much faster at processing WU's. It is almost a 2 to 1 ratio between the 2 systems in my sig and the laptop is a bit slower than my secondary rig. The T-bird can process over 3 villin or GNRA hairpin WU's a day and the P3 can do almost 2 a day. Either way you go is good for the team though, they all will add up points to at least keep us solidly in third, if not catch up to [H]ardOCP and OCAU. We really need more people to start Folding so we can reel in #'s 1 and 2.:)

I have a tbird running 24/7 it produces about 3/4 WU's a day!!
My 2 850 laptops do about 2 a day!!

Now I have no basis from which I make this point, but ehre it is.
I think the AMD out does the INTEL cpu's purely because they do more per clock cycle than the INTEL cpu's.
Least that makes sense to me whether that is the true reason behind it I dunno. I can't gripe at someone folding with INTEL, it's all for the greater good. The two systems in my signature produce about 44-50 points a week. Both are Duron's and my Dad and I are thinking of getting (1 or 1.2) ghz Durons for them. Would like XP, but they'll have to wait awhile.
One comparison I'd like to see is a AMD 500 mhz chip vs an Intel 500 mhz chip. I think we all know the newer AMD's kick INtel in folding, but do the older ones?
AMD is faster because they have a superior FPU. If you're farming, or just building a box that will be folding a lot, definately go with AMD.
