i would need some help please. i dont know what to buy.
i have a stable p3550e@825 watercooled ( selfmade ) and would like to upgrade....if possible..as cheap as possible.
i would like to keep my mobo which is a asus p3b-f which is completly stable at 150 fsb
i want to get the best buy for my buck ( although i live in austria ;) ) and dont know which chip i should get.....
if it should be an intel....it would have to be a E model - in means of 100 fsb so i can oc it till it burns ;) and if so, then i´d have to use a adapter from slot1 to fc-pga spoket 370 ( if i am wrong, please correct me)
then again i dont know if it pays off...thinking of an amd system caus it is cheaper considering chip and mobo.
please help....i hit the limit of my mobo....maybe my chip can do more...but i cant get abitbe6-2
although i do want to stick to intel somehow..... but if it doesnt pay off or isnt really affordable....
If your Asus mobo will run at a stable 150 FSB, then my advice is to get a faster P-III or Celeron and use a slotket adapter. The Celeron 900 is a good bargain for not much cash and it overclocks quite well since it's a cD0 stepping. If you decide to change motherboards, then an AMD system might be the best bang for your buck.

i dont really want to change the motherboards... i got somehow a little lazy and dont want to reinstall everything......
if i would choose the cel 900 and oc it nicely..... would it be better than a p3@825? want i want aswell beside ocíng is a ...well faster system than i have now ( not only in means by mhz )
thx for the help ! :)

i could get a 900 cel for around 79 € which around 79 $ ( i think )
would that mean that this cel. has a multiplier of 9 ? since it is listed with 100fsb... ?
i cant believe i am asking that... i simply forgot since a sold my 300A...
I mentioned the Celeron 900 because you were on a tight budget (yes it is 9X100=900 MHz). However, P-III CPUs do have twice the cache and would benchmark faster than the Celeron (assuming you compare them at the same speed). If you can afford to spend a little more, then the P-III 1000e might be a better choice (10X100=1000 MHz or 1 gig). It also will be the cD0 stepping. Both of these suggested CPUs should overclock to at least 1.2 gig and with good cooling some people have even reached 1.3 to 1.4 gig with them.

thats the cheapest p3 1000e i have found. mine is in the mail :). i called to confirm the stepping and that processor is cD0.
Yes, it's nice to try to upgrade what you have, but the benefits of a celeron 900 (even overclocked) would not warrant upgrading over your current P3. Perhaps put the money aside and start saving for an AMD XP or Tualatin system (stay away from P4s, expensive and not proven to be faster than squat ;) ).

Wait a sec, will u use a Slot1 to Socket370 adaper and the slotket Tualatin adapter that doesn't sound right, I think u should get a new mobo, if u have the Slot 1 one, and then prolly go AMD cause its cheaper :D
Since you already have a water cooling rig go for a Celeron 1000 Gig.
Their average overclock is 1333 and with your water cooling I'd bet you'd hit near 1450 if you vidpin mod it or more.
I think it would be a bang of a buck for you dude!
If you want to change motherboards and chips go for a Tualatin or Athlon XP setup.

u help me alot deciding but i still have problems....
my system works completly fine @ 150 fsb.my mobo is a slot 1. the only thing i would like to change is the cpu. by using adapters (slot 1 to .....) i would be able to "upgrade" the system.
i would like to know if a oc´d cel 1gig ( = 1.2 ~ 1.3 gig relativly realistic values...) would improve my system - compared to my p3550e@825 ? ( i know that the cel has less cache )
or the same question only formulated differently: if i have a p3550e - what cel at which speed would be just about the same performance? ( although the cache is an important issuse here which i know ) or is this comparisson not possible because the cache is the most important issue...?
if i knew that...or had more info on that...i could decide esier.
thanks again for all your input :)

The Celeron oced to like 1.4gig would definitely really take over your system. It would do Seti times in like 5hrs30mins while your doing 8 hours something.

If you want to get to 150FSB you best go with a PIII 700 or celeron 800. Personally i perfer the extra memory bandwidth of a 150FSB system over a higher GHz speed cpu with a 120-133FSB.

I think that the Celeron 900 would probaly be a good choice to overclock to 150 fsb because it would be around 1350 on a 150 fsb speed. That way you would get a noticeable gain in speed without sacrificing your memory bandwidth due to a lower fsb speed. I've read that the performance difference between the Celeron 2 and the Cumine P3 is around 1 speed bin slower, so you should still have a very noticeable performance increase over your old P3 running at 825 mhz.
Just my $.02 worth, hope it helps you out.
To get 150fsb just get a P3 800 or 1gig EB and it'll do 150 w/ right components and ram.
