Hi all, I finially upgraded my computer from a P4( the heater as I like to call it) socket 478 and some asus board I forgot the name of.

Now I have this board GA-EP45-UD3R and there are so many options to choose and tinker with, unfortuently I am a novice with the bios and my system just does not seem to be performing to my expectations. system just seems laggy, and I am getting low fps in World of Warcraft and other games.

here is my current setup ;

motherboard: GA-EP45-UD3R (rev. 1.0)
CPU: Q6600 socket 775 rated 2.4GHz
memory: G-Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK DDR2-1066 (PC2-8500) 2.0 ~ 2.1 Volts 4GB (2GB x 2) CAS_Latency 5-5-5-15
Video Card: Geforce GTX 260 core 216 896MB DDR3 Memory Pci-E 2.0
Power Supply: Corsair HX620W
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD5000AAJS 500 GB, 3 Gb/s, 8 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
case: CM stacker 690
Operating system: Windows Vista 32-bit w/ SP1 + updates

I seen a couple of people with templates of the M.I.T bios, how would I go about getting this info easily without writing down everything?

The only things i changed in the bios was : cpu was showing 2.0 so I upped the multiplier to 9x and got 2.4GHz, turned off some integrated devices( onboard audio, etc), changed the dram voltage to 2.0V. thats about it

Thanks for the help

have you installed the chipset drivers and what res are you gaming at for WOW? wow isnt that needy on the GPU but it is on the CPU,so im not sure why the low fps.

Also if you want to give your system a quick shot in the arm without having to study up then install Easy Tune 6 off the CD that came with your MB and when it loads hit one of the Quckboost buttons. I believe there's 3.2, 3.44, & 3.6Ghz buttons. Depending on your cooling you should be able to do the first two fairly easily, but monitor temps when you reboot because the Q6600 does get hot and you didn't mention whether you're on stock cooling or not. I used the 3.6Ghz button right out of the box on my Q9450 and it was 100% stable on the first reboot after pressing that red button. :) Then of course being a technonerd I changed every single setting in the bios to see what everything does, but it is a fairly effective OC without requiring a degree in overclocking.

@evilsizer
I installed the chipset drivers as soon as I installed vista, then I installed video drivers then the rest of my software. I game at 1680 x 1050 on monitor 1 and surf the net, have my music player on monitor 2. I know this causes fps to plummet when using dual monitors, but its not that bad of a fps loss.

@TimoneX
I installed easy tune, but was not comfortable just pushing a button and have these settings i have no idea what they are for mess with my components. So I just read a few tutorials on this great site and I was on my way ;)

Thanks to the replies both of you. There are many reasons why I was getting low fps in WoW. But I think the main one was, WoW has trouble supporting the new hardware coming out these days. WoW is 5 years old and the graphics(while still nice) does not utilize the newer hardware that people have. Hopefully Blizzard updates part or all of the graphics engine hehe

have you dont the the latency command to see if its not your ping to the server? when i played wow for a short time, i pinged 120-180 and it was playable. my res at the time was 1280x1024 with a E6400@3.2ghz on a 7900GT KO, details at max. maybe ocing your cpu a bit would help since i have read that WOW is more cpu dependent then video card. even though you have a quad core WOW is only using 2 cores at most.

I did not ping the sever within windows cmd, but I have an addon that shows fps and latency. and my latency is usually 200+. So maybe that is the cause of my troubles and I am fussing over nothing. Still have not tried gta4, or assassin's creed yet. But I am sure they will run decently

I did overclock my cpu to 3.0GHz, and it is somewhat stable. I still have to run memtest and prime95 to really see if it is stable enough for daily use. my fps seems to not dip below 30fps on max settings when many people are around. I guess that is pretty good, So i'll do some more configuring and check vista services and make sure indexing is turned off and what not.

thanks again for your help
