I have a chance to get a 4870X2 for a pretty good deal.I wanted to know if this card will last me for awhile. This would be the most I have spent on a video card.I just wanted some opinons from guys who have it and what their experiences with it are.The card looks good from all the reviews but I think people who own it are a better source of info. Thanks in advance

Why not? I went from a 1950 Pro, that I drop $250 for after rebate almost 3 years ago to my 4870x2. I spent a lot more than $250 for my card is also the most I've ever spend on any video card too. I love mine! The only problem I had was that I didn't like messing with manual fan control and wanted to do a better auto control without a BIOS mod. I got rivatuner, modified the auto numbers, and runs a lot cooler no matter what I'm playing. I love the card even more now!

Justin Cider,

its a good card, performance, and price wise, compare to the competition,

I had the 8800 series from nvidia and moved to 4870 as at the time nvidia had its prices sky high, until recently, and moved over to 30" @2560x1600, so needed more power, and choose 4870x2 over gtx 295 as I fell the price difference, and technology wise was a better moved, properly designed card vs just two cards sandwiched together, IMO

its tough with all the choices, good luck, good time to pick cards :D

ps you didin't stated the resolution, that does have a major impact on which card to pick

The resolution would be 1920X1200.Sorry I guess that would probably help

Justing,

at that resolution it will last a while, as right now I am running pretty much everything at 2560x1600, the beauty of your resolution is that the 4870x2 is perfect for that resolution because you won't have a problem with any game old or new, when you run an really old game(no crossfire support) you pretty much are left with 4870, but at that resolution is more than enough power, and with new games you can max everything with both cards,

sweet card, you sure will be a happy camper

4870x2 will last a long time as a good card and i think will be able to play almost any game at a resonalbe quality and res all the way untill Microsoft releases the next OS afer Windows 7.

Now that's one big future projection right there! You're talking 4 or 5 years! That is, unless they decide to do a special 2010 release of an OS.. ;P

Justin, what card do you currently have?

the power requirements for that card - are they really that high to put big scary numbers on your electricity bill? and do you think amd will be quick about releasing 40nm versions of the card?

I've yet to receive an OTT electricity bill... been pretty normal... i think its not as bad as people say it is...

Got to remember that it pulls big power only when your playing games. Most of the time is spend in the 2D/reduced speed mode that lowers power consumption.

Mine doesn't go into 2D clocks because if it does it would never go back to 3D clocks, so i had to OC using rivatuner to stop it from ocurring...

Justin, what card do you currently have?

Currently Windows 7 which will be Dx11 and require new DX11 cards to use Dx11 will be backwards compatible with DX10 is less than 2 years in the coming....2010 release date. And +1 for agreed for getting the card now. I love my 4870 and am considering getting a 4870x2 on top of it.

If you up your post count and get on the classifieds section, there are some pretty good deals coming in on the 4870X2 because of benchmarking team members offloading them for the new king, GTX295.

I just put one in my new tower. I had an 8800 GTX in my last rig. I am loving it so far. Crysis on Ultra high with full AA, tt's pretty amazing. Slight chugging with lots of action on screen but it's certainly playable, and it looks fantastic. I haven't loaded up any other games yet.

Fallout 3, Tomb Raider, COD4 this week.

You will always be behind the Video Card game but I think it might last you for 6 months or so....:)

I think that those deals will be gone by the time I make it into the classifieds. I'd say in about five years I will gain access. Bet I could get a 4870x2 on the cheap then!

Love mine myself I switched from 2 older BFG GTS8800's in SLI, and was a big improvement and plan to be using mine a long time.

I bought a Diamond when they came out the day they came out, the ASUS tri fan ones look nice to me I think if was gonna buy one atm.

Personal preference I guess lots of flavors now :)

Ah I just saw your post there when I read up Mathis, might be even better I guess :)

Might have to start working on more posts myself then as I'm still new here, just so can check things out in the future.
