So I got a new Seagate 1TB hard drive for xmas which is now home to all my media. I'm concerned about the drive because it makes some clicking noises when starting up and randomly during access. Noises that I would associate with a dying hard drive.
If I watch a TV show at least a handful of times so far I've noticed dropped frames and slight stuttering for a very brief period of time. Concurrently I also hear the drive clicking a bit.
I don't notice this problem with listening to music off the drive as far as I can tell. And I'm quite sure its not the show itself.
Is there a good way to test that the drive might be dying? or if there are bad sectors on it? I'd prefer not to spend the 4 hours it took to format the drive in the first place to reformat it if I don't have to (or it wouldn't fix anything).
Thanks!
