Best value video card for under $80-100? I'm not a gamer if that helps.

I've got a Kyro II 4000 32mb version. I picked it up for $50 bucks and does dvd pretty nicely. If you don't play games you can get just about any video card. I had an 8mb stb velocity 128 card which did just fine except for dvd.

Radeon LE, around $60+
or
Radeon 7500 $90+

Best value, especially if you aren't a gamer...

I have a Radeon VE, like it a lot and they are now something like $40-$60...

There are still some standard 32MB Radeons around for about $50.

I would stick with Radeon instead of GeForce cards because Radeon does the 2D and standard stuff better.

Consider a Matrox if you're not a gamer, even a used one... their 2d is best of all consumer cards... Radeon would be my next choice, but that's geared more towards gaming even though it has good 2d... cheaper nvidia cards (for under $80) typically have poorer 2d, and are 100% geared for gamers.

WOW, that was quick. Thanks for the tips guys. Keep the suggestions coming. Any problems with buying used video cards?

I don't think so, as long as you can trust the seller, and/or get some sort of gaurantee against DOA...That goes for anything, really.

BTW, if you really don't need much, you can get a 8MB card for less than $20, I have a couple of those in my folding rigs, SiS 6326 cards, I think. They work surprisingly well...just don't have the ram for newer games...

Now _that's_ my kind of budget!!! Keep those kinds of tips headed my way.

The only games I have loaded on any of my PCs are basic card games so I'm going to guess that even the cheap 2D oriented cars would work well for them?

My primary schtick is music and storing pics & digitized videos. And no, they're not _those_ kinds of videos. Well, not all of them anyway. ;)

So what would be a good video card for my primarily 2D usage (MP3 stuff and video/pic storage & editing) yet still offer great graphics if I do decide to start plaing PC games? Again, as near or under that magic $100 mark as possible.

Thanks guys.

At or very close either way to the $100 mark are:

Geforce2 Ti's and Ati Radeon 7500's

The Geforce2 Ti's generally have faster framerates in games, and the Ati's are renowned for superior image quality. Either of these cards or even models one or two steps lower would work for the kind of use you intend, with room to grow.

I use the GF2 Ti from Leadtek, and I got an Ati Radeon 7200 for the computer I built for my girlfriend. I'm very happy with both of them.

Thanks for the info and tips. Now, who's got the best deals on them?
