What does "certified" & "registered" mean with regards to memory?

All I know that registered is not too good of an overclocking ram.

Other than that I don't know didily squat about memory :D

Well that wasn't quite the answer I was looking for. ;) Anyone else care to let me in on the differences between the various "ratings" (certified, registered, etc.) of mem chips?
