View Full Version : It's done.
My monster dual AMD SETI killer is complete and crunching now...matter of fact, I'm using it this second.
All I can say is that this thing is fast. Thought my dual 1GHz PIII's were fast. Thought my AMD 1.67GHz rigs were fast when I got those. But this thing...whoa, haha.
Still only have 256MB of unbuffered DDR in it as my 768MB of ECC should be in today or tomorrow at the latest.
Looks like about 12 extra per day...just as I first thought.
For those that didn't know, it was an Asus A7M266-D with dual XP 1600s. Memory scores on this thing are hitting 1560/1560!
What's your address again Jon  I really need my computer back I mean now that you are bragging about it being yours and all...
Kidding, Sweet rig bud, my next is a dually amd as well too, prolly 2000+'s by the time I get there in a nice black server cube... *drool*
J
Haha.
That would be a sweet rig, too. Wish I had the funds for a couple of 2000s when I got all this but I'm not going to complain any.
It was definately worth waiting for.
Yeah by end of summer I am prolly going to be sitting on 2 Dual BP6's as I will buy my second one from my friend by then and a Dual AMD of some sort. The madness will never end that is for sure.

Been trying to download that mobo's manual - but no luck. Can you change the fsb and vcore voltage on that board? I like the Tyan boards, except for the fact of not being able to overclock them. Need a dually that will allow overclocking.
Wow those are some impressive memory scores! My Tiger MP with dual 1900's doesn't get any better than roughly 600/700. Makes me wonder if something is wrong...

Multipliers can't be changed on the Asus and VCore only adjusts for 1 CPU. Definately not an overclockers dream board. FSB does go up to 180MHz, but good luck there. MPX doesn't like it very high unless you're lucky. As far as I know, none of the newer MPX boards are going to be giving any more overclocking options than this one has...they will either be similar or even less. Not completely sure though. The EPoX board definately doesn't. Maybe MSI's or Gigabyte's will show some promise but I saw some prototypes on those and they didn't look promising.
As far as the memory scores go, I thought they were fishy too. I think it has to do with having all the SSE/MMX stuff enabled...seems like that's why my memory scores on the 8KHA+ I got were so weird if you remember that. From what I've seen in reviews, right around 1000/1000 is where it's benching normally. Was using the latest Sandra 2002 too, so maybe it has some strange, new performance system rating...who knows?

Wow. What a great rig! I'm jealous big-time!

Congrats!
Very impressive mem scores!
You gotta love that dual power! :burn: :burn:
Somebody get a mop over here quick!! Wait... A boat would be better! I'm drowning in drool!!! <ahhhhhh..... gurgle gurgle...>

Is it me, or is that voltage adjust for one cpu feature the strangest thing Asus has ever done?
My stars may be blue, but I'm green!
The closest I can come to a dual board is the two 8KHA+'s that I have. I need another XP, maybe the next show.
Good luck with it.

By far. Would definately make more sense to not include it at all.
I mean, seriously, give options for both or none...but one?
Who knows...

Who knows... I seriously thought it was a joke or a typo when I first saw it... Maybe it's a new way to modulate the temperature of your case. Just bump your voltage up and down on that one cpu to heat or cool your case :p
What's even funnier is that the manual takes up an entire page and a half explaining the jumper configurations for that single CPU, haha.

hahaah....Jon, u r heating up our team's competition again!!
now, u make me wish to have a dually too.....:D
LOL! It's not far off! Has a diagram for each and every single setting too.
Not to mention the little add-on addendums they put in for all the USB problems. "Look at you addendum please...we messed up here."
Haha... :D

Jon:
I was so envious of your new rig that I told myself "self, you've got to have one of these." But when I started looking for the motherboard, all the information I came across said it supports dual MP processors, but only a single XP processor. How did you get two XP processors to run?

I think they are just not "offically" supported. But they work.

Yep. Boots up and actually detects them as being MP 1600s.
The XP's work fine in SMP right now, but it's rumored AMD might do something to disable them. I think officially AMD has told motherboard makers to incorporate an MP bit detection in the bios and to only run one cpu if XP's are detected. It's up to manufacturers to follow that guideline.
Wanted to drop an extra line in and say this thing overclocked well for me. Considering it's an immature chipset using ECC, I managed 155MHz stable bus with only 2.6V needed on my VDIMM. Both XPs are chugging along at 1.63GHz and stock 1.75V...topping out at about 41C.
Memory scores shot up to just over 1700/1700 (still don't know how the new Sandra calculates it's scores...every version it's different).I tried it in 2001te too and it was 1138/1153 for comparison's sake. Surprised me out of ECC.
SETI likes. :D

I heard some XP's run duallie, and some do not. It is the luck of the draw. Congrats on that awesome rig! If I didn't get a new computer, and a whole bunch of P4's I can bum I would be jeolous...wait...I am still jeolous.
