Im scoring sub 10,000 with the specs listed below.....any idea why in the world it would be so low? It's alarming really.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.2Ghz

Way too slow for 3dmark06, which is heavily bottlenecked by CPU when using a 4870.

Yes, either OC that processor, or pick up one that will, because the clock you have right there is the weak sauce.

Upgrade to an E8400 (which can overclock to 4Ghz easily enough) with 2gb more ram then you will see that jump to around 15k with overclocking (just a guess - correct me if I am wrong)

15k is about right. I saw 15.7k with my 4870 @ stock & my e8400 @ 4.4

For 3dMark 06, 2GBs RAM should be more than enough. I think he should only upgrade his CPU.

15k would be with a quad core wouldnt it?

But as ram being so cheap to buy nowadays, 4Gb Ram will help his pc run smoother in everyday use, and will be very cheap to buy 2gb ($30?). I was talking about the overclocked E8400 not stock, otherwise that would be a quad for 15k @ stock. E8400 is much cheaper and overclocks very well.

I was seconds away from sending my card back on RMA, partially due to really low 3Dmark06 scores... you can even see my post in the general GPU section about it. But my brother started to report his comp was crashing in World of Warcraft just as bad as mine... there's serious problems in that game with one of the cities since they released a patch. Anyway, my card was getting a score of 10,300 in XP and 9600 in Win 7 with the processor at stock speed (2.3) and vid card at stock speed. After bumping up the processor to 2.4 and the card to 835/1100 I was able to pick up 1200 points... half of that was gained just by bumping the processor 115 MHz. I get 10,800 in win 7 and 11,600 in XP now. I'm sure if I was running 3.2 GHz or so I'd clear 15k 3Dmarks.

As far as my RMA goes I cancelled it... Since then I've only had problems with an illigitimate, unpatched copy of GTA IV and certain areas in WoW where my other card was also having trouble... and it runs stress tests at 835/1100 without artifacts or any other problems.
