'sup guys - I've browsing some forum's around the net trying to figure out how higher FSB influence harddrives.
Some people believe that a high FSB only influences the controller while other swear that the harddrive is very much affected too !
Why do I ask ? Well I've got my FSB clocked at 160 Mhz (1/4 divider) and my IBM GXP75 has no problems with that - the thing is that I'll be getting my new Maxtor D740X and I've heard of some people talking about how Maxtor drives are ****ty for OCed systems !
Any opinions would be greatly appriciated ! :p

Hard drives run on the PCI bus, so if that's overclocked, so is your hard drive. Maxtors aren't the best, your IBM drive is probably one of the best for OCing.

How about WD? Are they good for OCing?
The hard drive runs at a fixed rpm, the transfer of information to and from the controller is what gets messed up when overclocking.
Pci 66mhz motherboards that are used mostly in servers use the same hard drives we use on the 33mhz pci bus.

Welcome to the Forums!
My blurb for new folks: There are a bunch of Beginners' Guides on the front page here (http://www.overclockers.com)
A bunch of good stuff (good for review for those of us with short memories too;) )
As to the Question: FSB overclocks the Front Side Bus which means that all buses attached are also oc'd- this includes PCI and AGP. The bus running at speeds faster than spec is what can cause problems........as stated above!
As mentioned and just to clarify your fsb has dividers, 1/3 and 1/4 in your case its AMD so it has to be usually 1/4.
The divider sets the PCI bus so say your on 150fsb your divider is 1/4 then your PCI bus runs at 38 PCI Bus, basically your HDD runs on PCI bus. Usually when going over 40 pci bus your HDD will not take the heat and start corrupting files.

My old WD 13.6GB 7200 ATA-66 had some problems with data corruption at 115FSB, but my dual 40's seem fine now at 151. The WD400BB line is a good one (I believe this was based on the 20GB WD drive), and the IBM one mentioned above is great, too.

maxtor sucks for fsb o/c'ing. i booted my comp up one day and the whole partition was corrupt. lost all my data.
im gonna get a 40 gig ibm deskstar and sell this one soon though.
