View Full Version : No 7.1 speaker config with SB XFI?
I have the SB XFI card that came with the asus rampage II extreme board, getting 5.1 speaker sound just fine but can't seem to get any sound from the side speakers no matter what I do. The cable that comes with the gigaworks s750 has 4 connectors from the bass box that reduce down to three, so I seem be missing the grey (side) connector for the soundcard. Is this just a matter of buying a new cable somewhere? Any help would be appreciated, this one has me stumped.

Anyone? Am I just a dumb user? The cable I have only has three color connectors to the soundcard, seems to be missing a grey connector. It would appear this soundcard requires the grey for the side spreakers? Is this as easy as buying a new cable. 5.1 surron works fine but can't get 7.1 out of it (and yes I have 7 speakers :bang head)

What speaker system do you have can you take pictures of the plugs.

No not available for pictures. But I have the gigaworks s750 - from the back of the base box there is one cable with a green, orange, black, and grey connector which quickly reduced down to a greeb, orange, and black (no grey), this end would go in the soundcard. Worked fine on my old audigy gamer but on this soundblasterxfi it seems to need the grey cable for side speakers, so it would appear I need 4 connectors on each end? I don't get it.:bang head

I think you have the Right adaptor what sound card do you have.

Hey that's the exact cable and speaker system I'm talking about however my sound card is a soundblaster supremefx x-fi. I can only get 5 of the speakers to work no matter what config I use. Either front, center, and side or front, center, and back, but can never get all 7 working.
According to the rampage II etreme user guide I have to use grey for side, black for rear, orange for center and sub, and lime for front - but again to the soundcard as the illustration points out I only have 3 connectors not 4 like the other end of the cable. It would appear this soundcard requires 4 ports to be used for all seven spreakers. I'm really confused on this one.

The only thing I can figure is I need to have a cable with 4 connectors on both end to support 7.1 sound. The speaker system was not shipped with this cable only the 4 reduced down to 3 cable. Don't know if I can get a cable like this at walmart or best buy but going to see if they have them.

Maybe you could get just two jacks for the gray wire from best buy and then use both sets at the same time leaving the gray from your speaker harness unhooked.

No go tried just a single 6ft speaker connector and went from grey to grey leaving the grey connector off the original cable. Could only get 6 of 7 speakers working, looks like I'm stuck trying to get a hold of creative tech support. They don't make it easy on how to contact them but still trying.

I guess what i'm saying is substitute the gray with a different jack's and wire to the sound card.
