View Full Version : Radiator position?

I searched around and couldn't find any info on this so...if it's been asked before feel free to smack me around a bit.
Does it matter how the radiator is mounted in the case? As in, if it's vertical, should I have the in/out ports on the top or bottom? Probably easier to bleed if they're on the top, eh?

Shouldn't matter, just have your t-line or res above everything else so the air leaks out.

Unless there's an integrated reservoir. In which case it needs to be mounted vertically.

i dont think it really matters where you put it. never effected me i think the best place is where it fits easiest pretty much.

that is not true.
What anyone should do is fill their loop and try to get ALL air out before it is even installed in the case by tilting the rad all around, once installed it should not matter, you see plenty of WC rigs with rads barbs point down, or up, or sideways or backwards, once your loop is in, you should not be getting any air in it on refills.

According to sites that sell the MCR series with integrated reservoirs, they must be mounted vertically with barbs on the top.
Okay, so you do what you say, but then you don't have a functioning reservoir. I supposed you could dismount the radiator to refill it or drain it, but that defeats the purpose of having a simple all-in-one solution.

i think you mean bottom, or the res port at the top rather.

Agreed with that rad 100%.
Most of us try to place the barbs up. No matter if the rad is horizontal or vertical, it really helps to get the air out. Taking the res out if built into the case to bleed can be an absolute pain. It's much easier to fill the loop till as full as you can with bumping the pump etc. Then close the res off leaving the loop running and tilt the case, even upside down. The caveat to that is when having the case upside down, all of a sudden the pump runs dry. What do you do? Have a friend there able to turn the pump off.
