Well, the motherboard to get all depends on the processor that you are looking at (I suggest AMD -- better to OC on, except you need good cooling). If you go AMD, then I hear the SHUTTLE is the best.

As far as graphics card goes, the best out right now is GeForce 3 (135 frames per second -- I'm sure you can go 128meg at least).

I recently recommended a system with all the prices I forgot where it went but here's my recommendation for top notch :D

All hardware below is from newegg.com there is no shipping included in the prices either you'll have to calculate that by yourself.

Shuttle AK31 Rev 3.1: 79.00
Athlon XP 1600+ OEM: 116.00
Antec SX1240 w/ 400Watt PSU: 140.00
Ati Radeon 7500(Average gamer, will last prob 1.5 years/8500(Heavy Gamer, Long Lasting Card - 2 years) : 7500 OEM - 99.00/8500 Retail - 255.00
Crucial Micron 256MB DDR: 73.00 (x2)
Sony 52x OEM: 28.00
Seagate Barracuda IV ST340016A 40gb 7200rpm EIDE OEM w/ 3 Year Waranty - 87.00
Hercules Game Theatre XP: 91.00
SONY 1.44MB 3.5 INCH INTERNAL FDD DRIVE: 9.00
Sunon 80mm 40cfm: 5.00Each, 40 dollars total (x8)

That rig will give you maximum performance and it'll be oveclockable.

By the way for a video card I suggest you wait abit before buying the system although you should buy the ram now as the price is going up again.

But the ATI new card is going to come out to compete w/ the GeForce 4 and then the 8500 prices will come down so if you have a spare video card you can use that :D

Edit: You will need rounded cables as well as the HDD is OEM so it comes only with an anti static bag.
