Well guys, I just bought a new HDTV. Since I can't help but game on it all the time, I've decided to go ahead and add a BluRay player to my PC (should be here Wednesday).

Let me prefix this that I'm an utter newb at HD/Bluray...but I've got a pretty good idea of the how this is supposed to work.

I have a 4870x2, so I'm covered with the HDCP there. However, I'm not so certain about the audio.

My 7.1 receiver sadly does not support HDMI, other than that, its fantastic, so I would like to wait a couple of months before upgrading.
I'm using the Asus Maximus ii Formula motherboard and onboard X-FI audio card, as such, I want to run optical SPDIF out to my 7.1.
This works great with normal DVDs...will it work with the Bluray?

I understand that I won't be able to take full advantage of the HD audio with the optical output, but as long as its aleast DVD quality, it'll hold me off for a little while ;)

Thanks for your help :D

yes, it would. and it (the audio) will be just as good as your DVDs since it will be outputting the same DD/DTS audio over SPDIF/optical as is your DVDs.
