Hello all, its been a while.

My DVD drive (a sony RW-DL oem) locked up whenever something was put into the drive: freezing my computer, dvd burning or anything trying to acess the drive, for about 20 minutes then it would spring back to life and everything was fine, burning included.

I have tried fixing this problem a long time ago with no sucess, figured it was a busted logic board and just accepted it.

Now i have just gotten an LG (since the sony suddenly refused to be recognised) and the SAME thing happens, except now if i read, open a window to, change folders on, or TRY TO BURN TO the disk it locks up my computer, the window acessing it, any programs associated with it etc... and then its fine again after 30 minutes....

W-T-F

not driver, not board, not cable, not power, not logic board,
only thing left is software- it does the same with a fresh instal of windows, and i would think that ruled that out.

im confused, has anyone come across this kind of problem before???:bang head

have you already tried to delete upper and lower filters in registry?

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer.
