View Full Version : Get out of your sprint contract...

For some, this might be considered a "deal" and I know it was for me. I really wanted a smart phone, and I was able to succesfully cancel my contract (still in effect) with sprint without an ETF. Here's the how and why:

http://www.ucan.org/telecommunications/wireless/cancel_sprint_without_paying_early_termination_fee

Quote:
The new $0.75 Administrative Charge and the $0.20 Regulatory Charge can be your ticket to canceling your contract without paying a $200.00 a phone Early Termination Fee. Make sure you state that you are canceling because of these material changes.

It worked for me, and it may work for you if you need to get out of sprint. I had to call in twice to get it accomplished, HOWEVER, keep trying, it does work. Just gotta get somebody that isn't difficult, and that's about 50/50 in customer service.

Now I'm using a samsung saga by verizon and it's awesome! Touchscreen, full physical qwerty keyboard, a laser mouse... (limited use in my eyes, but it's still pretty damned cool)...

Don't think so. I have a $35 "Friends of Employees" plan that has 500 anytime minutes, free nights starting at 7pm, free weekends, unlimited text, internet, picture text, and free roaming.

That plus AT&T doesn't work AT ALL in my neighborhood (which is also the neighborhood of the President of the United States.)

Damn shame too... I really wanted the Blackberry Bold.

For me, it's a toss up between verizon and sprint. Pretty happy with what I got now.

Really? I live in Wicker Park and I have never had an issue anywhere in the city with AT&T. Or really anywhere in the country really. There is one 1-2mile stretch of road up in Northern IL that is notorious for dropping calls when you have AT&T, but other than that I havent come across any other problem areas. And I travel for business.

Yeah... really. I live in Hyde Park and there are AT LEAST seven different places where AT&T won't work. I've called them about it and gotten absolutely NOWHERE.

Which is a shame because I really do want that Blackberry Bold (that phone is just DOPE!)

AT&T won't even work in my house! Sometimes it will work on my porch... sometimes it will work across the street. MOST of the time I have to go around the corner to walgreens. It won't work across the street from walgreens. Very weird...

Yeah, with tax and any other charges I usually hit about 35 bucks a month.

We aren't going ANYWHERE. :D

The SERO plan would have been interesting, but 500 minutes is not nearly enough for me. I get 1,400 on my Verizon plan and I still went over one month.

Why? I get 25% off through work. lol

I work for a large corporation so I get 21-23 % with just about any carrier, verizon, sprint, etc.

23% off at sprint, though. I know it was my easy way into a new phone for cheap.

They had bigger plans than 500min that were also a killer deal.

I switched my parents and siblings to each have a sero 500 account. It saved them like $100 a month from a family plan with less features, lol.

I also have the SERO deal but it doesn't do anyone else any good. Sprint changed the deal a little while ago and it is now basically the everything plus plan with a ~$15 discount. Still a discount but you're looking at $80 a mo instead of the $30 we're paying now.

BTW, we are all likely screwed when it comes time to upgrade as everything I've read lately says that they will not let you upgrade your phone without signing up for the new contract. You can keep what you've got for as long as you want, but if you want a new phone anytime soon you're going to have to give up the sweet SERO deal.

Thanks for letting us know about this. We jumped right on this and had our Sprint service cancelled. Then we went shopped around a bit and ended up with US Cellular. Not bad phones, decent service, plus we got hooked up with tickets to go see Hinder next month. :D

The loop hole is you can get old SERO if you already have it. I had it for a year in August. In December I got my wife a Rant on her own Sero added to my account at BB no less. It was completely painless procedure. For others the process didn't go as smoothly, so YMMV certainly aplies.

The Bold is coming out on Sprint's network in a couple weeks/months. I just saw an ad for the Nextel version.

Nothing constructive to add... but why would you point a laser in your eye? :)
