Well,

My PIII 700 was stuck at 870 with my TNT2Ultra card but I put a GF2MMX400 and I just hit 1050mhz.

Here's the specs.
PIII700 cC0 stepping at 1050mhz
1.85volts
Alpha3125 HSF with dual Thermaltake fans
Running at 27C idle
Havent put a load on it yet
PC133 CAS2 256mg.

1) What's the best way to determine stability?
2) the MX400 is a temporary card. I'd like to get the best Gaming card (that will keep me at 1050) for around $100 to 125. Any thoughts?

Good to you. My p3 700 used to go up to that much though. But, I just stop overclock it since I have a sucks HSF.

Where did you get your slot HSF? It is hard for me to find one now.

Run some 3Dmark test, run 24 hours of folding, try a prime torture test, loop a 3D game like Quake 3 or Unreal... if it doesn't hang, you are stable! :)

Will do. Thanks,

How about the 3DMark2001 Demo (looped for 24 hours)?

The 3DMK 2001 demo ought to work ok for testing but you can also try the Si Soft Sandra burn-in wizard www.sisoftware.co.uk

Just select the CPU benchmarks and loop it about 100 times. Should be done in 1 to 2 hours. This will put your CPU under full load

what brand of ram are you using, and have to got your ratio set to 133:133:33 or 133:100:33?

what other expansion cards do you have?

Prime95 has my vote as it detects the errors.

Or CPUBurn or Seti.

Seti is a good one because the WU's are 7-8 hours guessing towards your machine and it helps our teams and definitely test stablity.

Try to tune up your bios abit too it helps.

Start by going in the chipset area and set all latencies and everything to like the lowest number possible use a bios guide.

when you go into your BIOS, and into advanced, you should see something like

133:133:33 (or something similiar)

make sure thats what its set to, as that will overclock the cpu+ram+all slot cards as well to give the best overclock and performance gain.

i ask because some people cheat with the ratio being 133:100:33, since the ram is a big factor in oc/ing.

oh and about the video card...it all depends on the price range....

for around 100$ i would suggest a Radeon7500
for 150$ i suggest a Geforce3Ti200
for 180$ i suggest a Radeon 8500LE for 200+ i suggest a Radeon 8500

Well, too bad they have an abismal record at www.resllerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com/cgi-bin/reseller/comview.cgi?TigerDirect) and 2.8/7.0 is nothing to cheer about.
