Can I effectively run the GPU2 client for an NVidia graphics card along with Boinc for CPU only? How stable is GPU FAH anyway? They have to play nice or I won't bother.
Which of the three GPU clients should I get if I do do this? WinXP64 Pro is my OS.

I'm running 2VM's and GPU for F@h.. I'm also running Boinc for the extra cpu cycles not used by f@h.. folding for the rosetta project.. Haven't been encountering any problems running GPU F@h..
Get the windows GPU2 console 6.23 client..
I ran the GPU2 system tray client with BOINC alongside it for a couple months last year. Worked great.
EDIT: jintatsu, do you get much work done for Rosetta that way? I'm running two VMs and GPU2 as well but am scared to run BOINC in case it kills my Q6600.

what processor do you have? A quad or a dual?
i know the nvidia gpu client does not use alot of cpu power, unlike the ATI one that seems to peg one core @ %100 for me

Yes. Follow the instructions in the sticky at the top of the forum.
Stability is OK with GPU2, but variable. If you regularly install new programs, or use any utility that alters your graphics /FAH GPU driver files, you'll be stuffed, right off. I wouldn't even bother trying. The CUDA and FAH GPU2 drivers MUST stay unaltered, and as the registered drivers, if GPU2 folding is to be used.
Even initiating a remote connection in Windows, will throw GPU2 folding, into a tizzy. (VNC is OK, though).
There are several Rosetta and SETI team members who do this type of "split", with good results.
When you go to the high performance client download page, your browser will tell the website what it needs to allow the website to prioritize the available folding clients for your system.

I have an Intel QX9650 at 3.6GHz which runs an AK V8 optimized version of Boinc Seti.
It sounds as if I need to get the latest drivers for the hardware I want to use and not bother it and it should be relatively stable?

If I got a dual GPU card would I have to follow the multiple GPU install or the single?
multiple. Also, you probably want to run the GPU client at low priority (console, advanced options) or slightly higher (systray) to keep boinc from interfering with the few cpu cycles the nVidia GPU client uses.

I'm doing it now on two boxes. My main rig, a Q9550 is running 4x Rosetta tasks and 1 GPU2 client, and my Opty 170 with 2x Rosetta, 1 GPU2. The trick is to use the latest CUDA drivers (v180.60). Prior to the latest CUDA drivers, I had to reserve a core for the GPU2 client.

Well, after I check in with work tomorrow and see what's up, I may take the dive into FAH again, at least until Berkeley gets their Cuda client stabilized.

Well I hit a bit of a snag. Without some Dremeling, I don't have room in my case for a GTX based card by a quarter of an inch. I can fit a new PSU, but not the GPUs. Dang....
Another question I have is which GPU would you choose for running GPU2? GTX260 55nm, GTX285, or GTX295? I'm leaning towards the 295 because the possibility of pairing two of them in a single case would be simply madness for crunch power.
I'd go with the 295, as that would give you the most folding power in a single package. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 12-15K PPD out of it.
