patch that improves speed? where to find?

Hi, people, i decide to stop my cable modem because it is damn expensive, and i dont have time to get a part time job, school just starts..anyway, my current isp is aol, and i hope to increase my speed just a bit..it is too slow:( so does anyone have any utility or patch that can give me a boost? Thanz so very much:D
