View Full Version : Windows XP (Home)
I was wondering if I can install XP home edition(Full edition) on more than 1 pc with only 1 copy. I had to activate it on my first machine but have not installed it on any other yet. I didn't relize the activation part till after I bought it for the pc I just built. Thanks Steve

No.
Product activation was built into the OS for this reason -- to stop casual copying. You'd have to buy another copy if you want it on another machine.

You'll need one copy of XP for every system you want to run it on. However, many hardware vendors are selling the full version of XP at deeply discounted prices if you buy hardware from them. For example, I just bought XP (full home version, OEM) for $85 when I bought a $20 power supply (Newegg). From what I've been told, just about any hardware purchase qualifies, even cables.
Thanks for the information. I figured it was like that. If I really like xp I will get another couple of full versions for my other 2 pc's.

buy a multiple cd-key licence called open licence ok that will work just as cheap as getting another copy
You do not need to buy full versions if you have qualifying versions for the upgrade versions of XP. The only difference between the full version and the upgrade version is that the upgrade version checks for a qualifying product. You can do a clean install of XP using the upgrade version.
Also if you are intending to network your computers you would be better off getting XP Pro rather than XP Home.

Calling Microsoft and telling them that your system crashed just to activate Win XP on another machine is a breach of contract. Read your EULA (end user license agreement). Microsoft explicitly states that one copy-one machine. (I don't like it either). However, I would suggest not posting in this forum instructions to circumvent Microsoft's anti-piracy feature.

In that case, I would stongly suggest you delete or edit that post to clarify what you meant. Discussion of that sort of thing will get you, and the Forum, in big trouble.
