Hey Everyone! I am brand new too the world of self building and just put some components together one being VGA HIS H487QT1GP 4870 1G RT got it from newegg. I have been struggling with the idea of that card , and possibly the EVGA 01G-P3-1286-AR GeForce GTX 280 FTW Edition 1GB card. I mostly play WOW and COD4 I am going to just put the components together at first and make sure everything runs right , I was then going to rely on input from all the helpful people here on the OC forums to do a little OCing.
The rest of my components are:
CPU INTEL|CORE I7 920 2.66G 45N R
MB EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 X58 3SLI RT
MEM 2Gx3|CORS TR3X6G1600C8D
HD 300G|WEST DIGITAL WD3000HLFS KINGWIN ABT-1000MA1S mach 1 power 1000w
ANTEC TWELVE HUNDRED
VGA HIS H487QT1GP 4870 1G
MNTR ACER|LCD 24" 2MS P244WBII
So if Anyone could help put my mind at ease about picking a decent card , it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

4870 1GB is def a good card :) and the 1gb will help with AA and Anti Filtering. my 4850 can play CoD4 at over 200fps and average can hit 400fps providing you unlock the fps though or else you will be locked at 85 i think. WoW is more CPU and mem based so your i7 and triple channel ram should be fine.

Cool I didn't even know You could unlock the fps on COD. I was wondering why I was only posting 91 fps last night . WOW looks sick I am posting an average of 140 fps compared to what I used to run on My Alienware Aurora 9700 laptop. Cuiiey could You hook me up with that fps unlock for COD ? Thanks for the help by the way greatly appreciated!

the GTX280 is faster than the single 4870 (but not the 4870x2) by an avg of 15 to 20% (pulling from memory, so I'm shooting a bit low I think)

That being said, the 4870 1GB is no slouch either, both are extremely powerful cards, and the 4870 is still a bit cheaper than the GTX280.
