Howdy all.
What's a good cheap HSF for OC'ing my MSI 694T Pro with a C500 on it?
Eh, it's all I can afford right now. ;)
Thanks in advance.

Pretty much anything would work, but Millennium Thermal has their original Glaciator on sale for $20. That heatsink/fan is pretty quiet and still performs very well. It would likely be able to handle whatever CPU you upgrade to with ease.
My idea of a cheap heatsink might be different from yours though.

Hi knuckledragger,
I have to agree with pHaestus, the Glaciator is really a good HeatSink, quiet & cool, take a look at Millennium Thermal Solutions (http://www.millennium-thermal.com/start.htm) for more info ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll order one.
Now, should I spring for the good thermal grease? Arctic Silver? How about lapping the HS and/or the CPU? Necessary (as in measureable temp drops) or just a nice good idea?
Again, thanks.

Well, Glaciators are just in bundle with Artic Silver, and for the lap thing, well, take a look here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=58493) it's the best explaination that I ever seen!
About your Cellie 500, well, onestly I don't suggest you to lap it, coz the temps results are very low (1-2 degree C max), but if you wanna however go, considering that is a Mendocino, is possible a light lap with dry sandpaper grain 1500, but be very carefull, coz this practice can kill your chip!!!

Thanks for the info Doors. Since my parts will probably take a week or two to all arrive I may just get bored enough to lap the HS. No biggie as I already have plenty of progressively finer grades of paper that I use to color sand car paint jobs.
Oh, and I prefer to mount the sandpaper onto a mirror as I can guarantee that they are much flatter than any of my table tops. ;)
Again, thanks.
