My roommate has ordered a mess of parts for a new pc and went with a clear plexiglas case from www.clear-viewtech.com It is the only part left to wait on and I was wondering... Without a metal case what are we going to have to ground and how should we go about it? Case should show up in a week, figure this is pretty important so anyone in the know, fill me in!!!
Thanks, here's the specs:
AMD XP 1900+
Be Cooling watercooling setup www.aquastealth.com
Abit KR7a
Leadtek GF3 Ti 200
Crucial 2100 512MB
Pioneer 16x DVD 40x CD slot loader
3Com 10/100
Western Digital 40GB 7200rpm
Sound Blaster Audigy
Viewsonic 19"

There are ground wires in every power connector coming from the PSU, which is grounded by the power cable. You shouldn't have any problems beyond that. Post pics when you're done building it!

i heard something about needing to ground the mobo, but you're saying i won' t need to because it is already grounded by the psu?

Yeah there really shouldn't be anything you'll have to ground yourself...everything will have its own ground line. Anyway, if you were powering something off the PSU by splicing into the 12v or 5v lines on a molex, then you'd just splice into a ground as well. I supposed if you really needed to ground something you could probably just attach the groundwire to the PSU itself.

No, any grounds there are done through the ATX connector. If you ground a motherboard any other way it won't work and theres a risk you could ruin it...

Is that crucial one 512 stick? is it ecc registered? if you answer yes to both those questions you might want to rethink it. There is a problem with those sticks and the KR7 check this site out for more info. Paul's (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kg7kr7/kg7kr7faq.htm)
Just thought it might help. by the way most hardware conflics are listed on this site so make sure and read as much as you can.

Nah, the ram is non-ECC and unregistered. So, I should not ground anything now?

I try hard to make certain nothing in my metal cases grounds: mobos are all mounted with nylon washers on both sides.
Modern pc components take care of all the grounds in the power cables as stated- thats why my cardboard case works fine.
And why those of us who initially build a system out of a case to configure and tune have no problems either.
