So I purchased Corsair Dominator TWIN2X4096-8500C5D from Newegg
Figured this should be some nice ram, clear cmos install ram all I get is long beep code for bad mem sticks on abit ip35pro mobo
Im thinking no no no, this ram has to be good after all its corsair, so I spent almost all of Saturday trying to get this ram to boot (1stick slot 1) etc, finally gave up & re-installed my crucial balistix 2x1gig kit but now they wouldn't work either... long beep code error
So I remove the video card and the memory and clear the cmos put it all back in and the balistix work fine again as before
So Im thinking hmmm maybe the corsair will work if I do that...
I give it a shot and still nothing but long beep code mem error
Why is it that I should have to remove my video card to get my balistix to run as they have in the past, Its really rather annoying because my video card is very hard to get out of my case...
Good thing about this whole deal is Newegg is going to refund my money and send a free shipping label, Ive only had to return 1 other item to newegg besides this purchase & they made it really ez and free...
FINALLY What is the best 4gig kit 2x2gig ddr2 1066 memory you can buy?
I dont want to have long beep code error again :bang head:screwy::attn::-/:cry:

You shouldn't have to pull the VGA, just reset CMOS, pull battery, and move the jumper plug.
2x2GB Dominators are the best bang for the buck right now. $55 after MIR and hit 1100 MHz 5-5-5-12 at 2.0v
The 1066 Reapers and GSkills also use Powerchip ICs and are similarly priced.
If you want higher (and I think your next step is probably over 1200), you can get GSkill Pi 1100s which are hitting around 1160 (they use Promos not PSC ICs).

Ok I did fail to remove the battery which I normal do when clearing cmos, I did unplug all power tho and let the jumper sit on clear pins for 10, 15 min each time...
dam now I am tempted to re-clear the cmos with the battery removed to see if these will work before sending them back, I have a sneaking suspicion they will work if I remove the battery and clear the cmos

put this "OCZ2P10664GK", into this: "http://search.live.com/cashback".
zipzoomfly has them for $25.99 after a $20 rebate. That's $10 better than the corsair's even before the rebate.
The catch is they're currently OOS. I've been watching them for a week and a half to see when they get new stock in.
I have one set of these that I got during the last rebate period (ending 1/31). As soon as they're back in, I'm getting the second set.
I've run them at their rated timings/speed/voltages, and no problems. Haven't tried OC'ing them yet, as I'm currently FSB limited at cpu anyway, there's just not a point.

I would try it and run Memtest before booting to Windows. They may be defective, but those are very good quality for the price...just RMA back to the Egg and get a new set.

They wouldn't boot or do anything just long beep memory error code memtest wont start under that condition. If I can get them to post then ill run memtest

np. you scared me there for a minute. I thought maybe I had bought the wrong ones by mistake. I pay attention first to the price, and second to the rebates, and third to the specs. That said, given the current pricing of ddr2, there's no reason to buy the slow timings stuff.
Where does one go to find out what memory chips are actually on one of these? I'd like to know, but not badly enough to pry off a heatspreader.

Ascents are not needed for heat disapation in the 2x2GB kits. I would do these (which have the same ICs): http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?id=661

I would like to see some Everest screenies to see if cas6 1200 MHz is really faster than cas5 1100 MHz.

my ocz reapers 1066 were drop in and go :) at 1069 atm
yes had the same problem as you with dominators 8888 .. you have to set all the settings yourself because of the xmp profiles arnt always seen properly , had simular problems with my corsair flex 9200 1150 kit .. xmp profiles can be a pita ( seems all the fancy numbers and speeds are done on 780i chipset & hard to get with intel chipsets)
BUT.. my Buffalo Firestix 800 pc2 6400 ;) do 1200 eazlyyyyyyy

You must have the old 2x1GB D9s.

Thanks for trying.
Can you keep the FSB the same. Your variance in processor speed skews the results. Try changing timings and ratios only please. Like this:

actually proccy speed was the same as was the NB and HT link so it should not skew the restults. its an AMD not an intel bus speed makes very very small differences. also there is no way to get a 1150 and 1260 result using the same bus speed
i may be new here but i know what i'm doing check TPU and XS i'm not exactly "new" to this

Not suggesting you are...But I don't know squat about AMD:shrug:
I was asking only to see how the timing was offset by the speed.

its not offset by the speed on this one and i have no way to test 1260 and 1100 on the same bus speed.

Ive got the 1100 gskills with the heat spreaders and fins. Work great, and only take 1.90 to run. Plus you have a little headroom for oc'ing
Lots of good ones in the market, and it hard to decide-:
GSkill PI-Black , GSkill HK (both Powerchip) , Tracer Red-White , Tracer Black-Yellow , Ballistix Orange-Yellow , Dominator , Reaper
And almost all will do 1066 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0v with ease, rest is luck.
However Crucials tend to give better bandwidth (i may be wrong)
@ cdawall -: which tracer is that ?

Ya id love to set um myself as always but they wouldn't even post to let me in the bios, I might try the reapers, ive had great luck in the past with ocz on ddr1
what timings at 1069?

Most of the 2x2GB Powerchip based kits will do 1100 5-5-5-15 for you without issue.
