Does anyone know which is better for folding? I plan on running a home server plus a few other things and thought if I get a dual CPU board I can having one CPU dedicated to folding.

There would be no major difference in folding in the 2 chips you listed. You *may* be able to get the xeon chip to run at a slightly lower voltage at stock or at speed, but, its not worththe price premium to me.

So a dual 775 board would be best. In that case I think at least one company produces a dual socket 775 board. If not ill just go for two servers in a rack.

Some xeon's are 771 so yu ahve to be careful what you pick.

There's also the possibility of a mini atx cluster. sub $70 boards, a cheap dual core and 1gb of memory.

In my opinion, it would be best to build a cheap GPU farm with what you listed above. More crunching and more PPD out of GPU vs CPU. Just get 2 9600gt's along with what you mentioned and you are looking at 8-10k ppd.
