I just got done bulding my computer and I wanna play with it
:)
I 'm new at the overclocking thing so I'm looking for some help.
AMD 1600+
K7T22 Pro 2
Dimond Vipor 177 non ultra
256 Mb Pc-266 DDR
I'm not sure if HD speeds aplly to this but right now I have 2 IDE's that spin at 7200 and I 'm going to be putting in a scsi raid setup with 3 HD's that spin at 11000.
I do mostly high res video and pics. I use my burner alot and always have seti running.
Welcome to the forums! You've definately come to the right place.
Seeing that you admit to being a beginner (I commend you for that) I'd first like to instruct you to go back and visit the Overclockers.com homepage and find the Beginner's Guides. These are very basic but will give you an understanding of what we do. I would then like to invite you to search around in this section for the manufacturer of your board (I'm positive many members have the same board and processor you do) and for other posts that have similar components as yours. This will help educate you to the point where we don't have to hold your hand through every single step...believe me, as much as we'd like to be able to do that, there is much more to overclocking than just flipping a switch.
Once you get the basics down and have an idea of what to expect, we'll be happy to get you jump-started. It's just better for all if you have some knowledge of what you're doing. It will go much easier for you and will also help insure you don't damage any components.
Welcome, once again, to the greatest hardware site on the internet!

Thank You. :) :) :) :)
I'm glad to see there are some very nice people on this forum.
I have already read the begginers guide and for the most part understand it. I just don't want to take a chance in frying something.
I'm looking at some edvice on what to set and how much? with it still being nice and stable. All my money goes to my schooling and my car. So there's not much left for me to spend on my computer.
My mother bord is a MSI K7T266 Pro2 Which is AMD KT266A Chipset based.
I'll be glad to tell you anything about my computer that will help.
I'm assuming your XP isn't unlocked so the only way to overclock at the moment is to begin upping the front side bus. It's currently running at 133MHz so the higher it goes, the higher your memory and processor speeds will go too.
The processor is 1.4GHz meaning it has a multiplier of 10.5. 10.5 X 133 = 1400 or 1.4GHz. Your memory runs the same speed as the front side bus, currently 133MHz.
What you want to do is increase the bus speed via the BIOS setup of the motherboard. What you need to insure before starting, is to make positive you have adequate cooling for your processor. Heat is public enemy #1 around here. A good copper heatsink and high output fan is a good start.
You can begin by trying to raise the FSB (front side bus) to 140MHz for starters. Don't want to get ahead of yourself by jumping the gun. This will increase your memory speed to 140MHz as well. The CPU speed now becomes 10.5 X 140, or 1470MHz...a very modest overclock. Run a good CPU stressing program and keep an eye on your temps. If everything is good and stable you can begin the tedious task of continuously raising the FSB and testing for stability and heat problems.
If cooling for you is under control then go ahead and begin testing your system for the highest FSB you can reach while keeping temps under control while keeping a good stable system.
If by chance you run into a situation you can no longer boot your PC (it happens), shut it down, unplug the power source and look into your manual regarding resetting the CMOS jumper. This brings the BIOS settings back to default values and will allow you to start over.
Good luck and keep us informed!
