hey all, was looking at the netbook market and was looking to pick up an acer aspire one mostly for its low price point. when looking at specs however i came across a display specification saying that it displays 262 000 colors. being such a low cost system its not surprising but I was wondering if this was typical of all netbooks. i googled for a good while but couldn't find color support for other models of netbooks. anyone know if 262 000 is typical for this class of machine? Thanks.

yes, that's because they are giving you exactly what it will produce given it is a 6bit panel. They could have said 16.2M colours with dithering (which is weird why they did not)

ooooooh alright makes sense now. i had completely forgotten about dithering. i had thought that 262 000 was a suspiciously low number. i don't suppose any netbooks such as the insanely expensive sony vaio p display a genuine 16.7 millon colors.

don't believe there is any. After all, it is about convenience for these devices, not top of the line. They don't truly require 16.7M colour precision for what they were designed for. Same reason as why the chipsets don't support 4GB memory and the like.
