Get sisoft sandra:
http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/san_dem/html/dload.htm
Set that up and look at the system info and benchmarks. That should answer some of your questions.

Ummm, Softwebdev?...Nevermind...
Anyway, first, get some numbers and info with Sandra or something similar. Could be bad settings.

oh yeah im runnin win 98...but i just thought of this...maybe its because i dont have 320 ram like i had in my p3 600E?
my guess is that the problem is with your OS. Win 98 has horrible memory managment, so the longer the comp runs more stuff gets built up in the memory and that slows the comp down tremedisly

No <LOL>
I'm not a fan of XP (can you tell?)
If you can get 2000 I'd put that on first, but Win9x should run pretty quick on that setup too: if there is a conflict someplace, it'll still act up.
No signs of anything weird in Control Panel/Devices?

Everything looks good. What specifically seems slow? Video refresh? Windows opening?
BTW, I use 98 and think it works fine.

do you have all of your bios settings right? basically make sure all of the best performance setting for the bios are turned on. you should check to make sure your AGP 4x is enabled if your card supports it. if your card is 32mb then it shouldn't be giving you any problems. it also all depends on what games you are playing...as long as you aren't playing the latest games and mondo-high resolutions then you shouldn't be having much trouble.
i have no experience with video card overclocking but if you use your FSB to overclock rather than your multiplier then the video card might not be stable at the higher speeds.
that's all i can think of, but i'm sure someone else may be able to offer some more ideas. :)

its prolly the vid card cuz its pci but then i could be worng. As for win 98...i have it too (second edition) and my mem management is fine....then again i got ddr. I have it about 9-12 hrs on all day with usually 2-4 restarts to fix things or modify devices or install things. Anyway, as for games, make sure u have all updated drivers or at least have it tweaked for the best. Is it tweaked at all....? or is it set for FSAA 4 sample? that might be the problem. DL the latest drivers first and try reinstalling them from the origional disk first. Is it sluggish in other programs? if so it is definitely cpu. If just in games then i would say its the video. I have a crap sound card and it doesn't hinder my speed at all. GOOD LUCK!!!
i just thought of something........maybe its the refresh rate on the monitor. My friend had the same problem until he turned it up.....then it went away and everything was fine.

it goes sluggish off and on, but i deffinetly notice it in all games
then you absolutely need to update thosse drivers and make sure it is not set for "best" quality in the games. Try running the game at the lowest setttings first and if it is sluggish then or the same as when they were higher, it is definitely a video driver problem. Install the most basic drivers that came with the card and then go to NVIDIA.com and download the "Detonator XP" drivers (not just for winxp) and try those. They really helped me. Make sure u have the most basic drivers installed before you have any updates installed tho cause otherwise it sill still be sluggish.

deffinetly seems to be the vid card...i put in my bros radeon 7000 and its fine...anyways since i need a new gfx card i want a geforce 2 ti 200...any1 know a real good one for cheap
now that we've established the fact that its the vid card.........we can move on to bigger and better things.
I would not nitpick over all the different companies that make the same card. As long as they all compare equally with the hardware aspect....i would go for the cheapest non-generic retail card you can get.:D
www.pricewatch.com is a good wabsite for searching prices. PS: make sure u don't pay too much for S&H.

i was thinking along the lines of a chaintech gf2 ti 200 or a asus v7700 (also gf2 ti 200)

And there you go. I very recently burned out my gf2 pro card and put in an old Hercules mx2 pci card and the system is a lot slower as you said. This will help some. Get and install power strip. Open it and under latency for the video card, change it to 40. It is presently using (default) 248. This is way toooooo long and it is hogging the bus. Hope this helps some. It will not help boot times much but will speed things up some once you are booted. Saving up for a gf3 ti card now.:)
