O.k, first of all here is what I am using in my computer:
Enermax 431 w Whisper
Koolance Pc2c
T-Bird Ayhja-y 1.4 ghz
A7A266 (duh)
256 mb Kingmax PC2700 -05
Crappy PCI soundcard (s.b 16 or something like that)
MSI GeForce 2 Pro ( :( )
Pci Lan card
I have no volt mod on my m.b so the max voltage is 1.85
I am trying to o.c my computer to 1.7, I know I will need a volt mod on my motherboard. The problem is, even when I try overclocking my computer right now I run into problems...
Using the jumperfree mode on my m.b I can easilly bump the mult. to 12 and use the standard 133 fsb. What I am hearing is that a computer performs better in games if it is using a high fsb instead of a big multiplier. Since I am a gamer that is very important to me . The problem I run into is this, if I raise my fsb to 141 and use the 11.5 multiplier (giving me 1628 in my bios) I can run Sandra's burn-in 99 times for Arithmetic, Multi-media and Memory at stress level without any problems ; I can also loop 3dmarks 2001 20 times without a glitch (even though my score suxors!) but as soon as I play 5 minutes of quake, I get a stupid lock-up... I wanted to run Wolfdemo2 to play multiplayer : the games loads but as soon as I click on the multiplayer button I get a windows error saying that there as been a fault (or something simillar) within the kernel. I re-installed my os (win 98se) and still had the same message in the wolfdemo2.
If I am running the fsb at 133 with the mult at 12 (which gives me 1600 in my bios) I can play any game without a glitch and complete all the benchmarks I have installed on my hard-drive. I am thinking maybe the crappy sound card is not liking the fsb... I have no way of verifying this unfortunately. I realllly want to overclock this puppy before I get the new tbreads (personnal challenge of some sort).
I was about to forget : my motherboard has no option to raise the voltage for the DIMMS or the AGP/PCI... Is there a way to set them manually?
Ahh one other thing... I tried overclocking my video card using a little MSI menu, it works well in 3d Marks 2001, improving my score to a whopping 3938!!! Unfortunately, when I try to play quake 3 when it is overclocked I also get some "friendly" lock-ups (I have not tried overclocking the card when running 12*133). After having it lock-up on me I restored it's original settings, but now I get "substandard" performance in Q3 (when I run in circles, the image tends to be laggy somehow) this did not use to happen. The lowered performance symptoms even followede if I loweredy resolution to 640*480 (which is why I am worried). Any ideas on how to fix this (other than buying a new card ;) )?
What do you think is causing the lock-ups? How can I fix the video-card's symptoms? Whats up with the weak FSB? Arghhhh!!!
Thanks for reading this long post :D!
