I am connected to internet by broadband....
i have not enabled the firewall on the router...(basically, cuz i don't really know how to!) ...
i don't have much "important and valuable" info worthwhile for anyone...
do i still need a firewall? i mean is it that unsecurre?? or some people are just too cautious, when they say broadband is very unsecure?
thanks...

If your unsure how secure your computer is why don't you use 1 of the online scanning services to probe your machine for security holes. There are many services available. 1 of the easiest to use is Steve Gibson's Shield's Up ( https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 ). It will give you a pretty good idea if you need to take more steps to secure you computer.

With routers, as long as you dont disable the firewall, it will work. (Should be fine at default settings)

also if your running winXP there is an option to enable firewall, or other software firewalls like zonealarm. :D

The way a router works is that by default it is a firewall. To disable the firewall you would have to enable DMZ hosting which basically opens all the ports on the router. That is why you should never enable DMZ hosting but only open single ports if you are hosting a server of somesort.
