Network monitoring software...

Guys i am on a home LAN...what are some of the network monitoring tools that i can use?
I want to know what's going on on other PCs...and...
i want to be able to execute commands on other machines...
is there anyway i can see the screen of other PCs and operate it remotely?? i don't want to go all the way to other rooms and click OK!! can i dio it from my machine??

well,

there's always pc anywhere, but it's a bit pricey. there's another program that does identical to pc anywhere, runs on linux and windows, and is free. cant remember the name though. if i find it, ill repost.
