View Full Version : How do you write 0 to the harddrive??
Just what the subject line says. I just recently heard about and have no idea how to do it. TIA

If it's a western digital the western digital utility disk has an option to write 0's to the disk.
If it's anothe brand i'm sure they have utilities that will do the same thing. Check the vendor's web site for utilities on how to do it.
I recommend against doing it. It can really mess up the drive if the utility screws up.
In linux you can do it. Its something like:
cat /dev/zero /dev/hda1
Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong, I've never done this.

Why do you want to do it?
If its to over-write info you want destroyed you can get freeware/share ware to do it.
