Thinking about moving up to 8GB. Will it effect my system at all?
Only if you work with very large files, or do photo/video editing.

You have that much confidence in your multitasking? :p
I think that 4 gigs is pretty much premium right now for anyone outside of a media-type career. I won't say no, because I don't know if you are a huge video/media-content editor, but unless you are - I wouldn't bother with the extra money. It's Valentine's Day - maybe spend the money on your significant..
waste of money
only if someone gives you RAM for free

i have 8GB. it's nice to know vista *only* uses 78% of that when i was copying and pasting a file...

It will make it cost more.
If you shop for a good bargain, and are willing to rebate, 2x2GB DDR2 can be had for $25-$40. At that price, you can buy it for tomorrow if you don't need it today. I'm running 6GB right now, because rebating for the best price meant not getting 2x(2x2GB) at the same time. At the next rebate cycle, I'm getting another, to bring me to 8GB total, so I can finally upgrade to vista.

Going to 8 will allow any LMA-aware 32-bit programs you're running to access the total 4Gb that they can under a 64-bit environment.

like adding anything to your computer it will help. but the question is do you need it? i do video editing/encoding/rendering so it helps a crap ton.

8Gb is highly suggested if you work with a lot of concurrent guests in vmware
I think the cost is at a prime right now though. Especially if you are going for DDR800. And since you are on AMD which does not have a DDR3 platform anytime soon, I would say it would be worth it. Even if it is just for the sake of future proofing.

Its a good question and one I am contemplating myself.
memory is pretty cheap right now...Well DDR-2 is anyway.
I'm running vista 64 with 2X2 Gb sticks, and was thinking of adding 2 more sticks to bring me to 8Gb..
All I do is surf and game, so I don't know if its worth it, but man, I could probably do it for like $35.00..so whats the harm....:)

Sounds legit to me :)

Superfetch and increasing textures sizes in games plus multitasking seems to make it worth getting some extra memory

...or run VMs. It's not that others are wrong with 'It's cheap' and 'It can't hurt' (although in theory it could if you're pushing a CPU oc to the edge and the memory controller oc's worse with 4 sticks) it's a matter of whether it's a useful way to spend money. Upgraditis isn't a good reason :p

Aside from an actual need if you do require more than 4GB, it is nice to run 8GB with Vista x64 superfetch. When I boot up my computer with 8GB it caches close to 7GB of things I use and everything truly loads instantly. When playing games once certain maps are loaded they can reload much faster. How much crap you need cached is on the other hand a matter of debate.

That's the best reason for a slotload full of ram. There's not many things slower than a VM thrashing a Vpagefile.

No biggie... at least you weren;t trying to say it was lupus
I'd do it. 8gb would mean vista can load a lot more programs up before you open it. I've got 4gb and vista keeps COD4 in RAM so when I open it its instant - very nice. However theres not enough space for L4D so I have to wait for that to load :'(
So I'd say upgrade. :D
