I was just curious if an AMD athlon 800mhz can work with 250w psu? Or should I go higher? I'm not going to O/C or anything just want it to work.

A 250 should be ok, but if you've got a lot of drives/fans/peripherals, you'd probably be better off with at least a 300w. If you decide to upgrade to anything over 1g in the future, I think you'll definitely need at least a 300w, so I think you may save yourself a little aggrivation if you spend a little more and go for at least a 300w. At least that's my opinion, someone else here may have a better answer.

I'd personally recommend a 300w at least but if a 250w is all you can get you might want to undervolt your chip. You could probably get away with undervolting the cpu by 0.1v if you run it at stock speeds. That would help run the system cooler and you wouldn't need as much fan power which would also save on power consumption.

Hey...

like everyone is saying, a 250w psu should work fine.....amd recommends that you use a 300 - 350w....

but i say again...250w psu should unless you are using a lot of drives and fans like mentioned above...=)

good day...

If you really want to know, have a look at AMD's list of PS's that are approved for Athlons. A handful of 250W's do make the grade.
