I just found this program, TVersity and it works very well. I went through the whole windows media sharing thing before i got frustrated and decided to Google other options.
Really easy to use, not so sure i knew what i was doing on the set-up however (never seen so many installations/ options at once, but i kept hitting "ok" lol). One thing I don't like is that it wont automatically keep playing videos back to back, like it does with music.
This has also given me a reason to organize my files on my hd because navigating on the ps3 seems a little bulky. It also takes a minute after starting the ps3 to finally recognize TVersity.
Anyone use this program or have another that works pretty well?

I'm not sure why you can't get the Windows Media Player sharing fine, I use it and it works perfectly fine. Easy to setup and it works like a charm, no lag/stuttering unless my network bandwidth is already being used.

i get an error every time when using wmp and it disconnects my ps3 from media sharing.

I was the same way, I could never get wmp to share with the ps3 properly, so I just used TVersity and it works great.

I use WMP as well. It was a breeze - you just have to make sure your connection is set up as Nat 2. I stream all my files to both my 360 & PS3 wirelessly using a WRT54GL.

let us know how that one runs. TVersity has beeen working pretty well, except I some times get stuttering on certain file types. Might be a setting I have to change, not sure yet.

Tried this, and it's amazing. Way better than windows media player.
Recommend this one to everyone.

I can't get it to work yet. I'm having better luck with XBMC though. It at least sees the Mac and the shares but not the files. I used to have it working with the Mac without any additional software other than a UPNP plugin but one of the PS3 updates broke that.
