Well, I did a volt mod and I can now get to 166 x 10.5 which is 1743mhz I needt 2.18v to have it stable tho. My Load temperature ia 54'c, is this safe? or is it too high? also my 5v line is sitting around 4.75v or so on a 300watt antec power supply??????? I don't get it, the 250watt I had was the same.. It seems stable, but I think once I get the video card going too in a 3d game that would drop to like 4.65 or so, which is getting VERY low....
But basically are these temps okay? I am usin an Alpha 8045 with 50cfm fan, and at 1743mhz at 2.18v, my load temperature is 54'c...

54c is a bit crispy for my tastes
Using Air-cooling I usually go for a temp between 35c and 45c
(35 being idle and 45 being full load).
What processor are you using? I think Athlon has their processors cleared through like 60c or something (I can't remember where I read that at tho). Still 54c is pretty warm, plus 2.18v is pretty high, but I don't know much about volt mods at all.
That's seems awfully high. You've got a good heatsink... How's the airflow in the case? It may be that the heatsink is just recirculating hot air. You could try ducting or at least rearranging your airflow a bit to see if that helps.
BTW, you can check your volts during a video game by checking the Hi/Lo page on MBM.
nihili
The max temp for a Athlon is 90 degrees C.
So 54 is a way off, but still alittle warm compared to others.
If its stable I wouldn't worry to much, although the life of the chip is decreased slightly by high temperatures, it will still out live your needs.
4.75 volts is ok, but 4.65 is alittle low. I wouldn't worry about 4.75, thats only a 5% deviation, that is safe and should be stable.

The 5V rail Is really low. which is weird for antec (You might want to run this by Hoot hes really good with these things) and he did a big page about 5v lines and stuff under cases and power supplies, he has a sticky I think it tells you how to boost/stabalize the line.
As far as the temps I was theyre when I had my *eww* dragon orb 3 on my 1.2. Now I have a nice swiftec though. But I had run my machine since I received it and it had gotten up to 60degreec c before with no problems (lock ups etc) and djl is correct AMD thunderbirds are rated up to 90 degrees c. So you should be fine with your heatsink. But you may want to check on the as2 paste and maybe lap the heatsink. And also like nihili said be sure you have adaquate airflow. Otherwise you will have hot air in the case circulating, and that could be a cause to higher tempatures.
Imagine what all those other stock systems with little taosol heatsinks run at (my bf has one on his athlon. I cant get him to spend the money and get areal heatsink). So if all these dells and compaqs run fine you shouldent be too bad off. But then again the endeavor is to keep is lower. lower is better.

I have an Athlon XP 1600, and at default speed and voltage my temperatures are 36'c idle 39'c load. I have lapped my heatsink and temperatures went down 3'c (from 42'c). I have an Antec SX1030B case with All four fan poistions filled for 40cfm 80mm fans. Does anyone know where that sticky about 5v lines is?

Okay, well after a few tries I was unable to get 1743mhz stable... I am now running 164x10.5 1726mhz, my load temperature is 57'c, my 5v stays above 4.70v and I can sucessfully complete 3dmark, 9000 3dmarks :D I am running prime now, and my load temperature fluctuates from 56-57'c... my 3.3v is stable at 3.65, it seems as tho the system is running quite stable altho, 57'c is quite high. But as you guys said, if Compaq is selling comuters with those cheap heatsinks I am sure these temps are fine, this is at 2.20v... Hehe.. These XP's like the voltage! a XP2000+ could probably do 2000mhz+ at this voltage.
