So, I've never been to a con, it's always seemed to be the kind of scene that I wouldn't fit into. But I'd like to think that it's for people who actualyl write comics. Scott RAM SOME AIR, on the other hand, doesn't. I think it's about one comic a month...

So this is a personal shout out: I loved your comic, reading it tuesdays and thursdays was the highlight of that day and made it and penny arcade my first visit of the day depending on what day it was. But where do you get off thinking you can go to all these cons when you don't even update your freaking comic anymore? Who wants to meet with somebody who doesn't actaully do it anymore? That's like Sony going out of business but still having a booth at CES every year.

Instead of wasting time at cons, write a ****ing comic so people will start caring again!

Anybody else agree with me?

Great work, but teh ******* actually needs to start DOING IT AGAIN instead of going to all these cons that always show up in his updates.

I just read your whole post and I have one question...

What are you talking about?

That's exactly the thing I thought too!!!

He is bitching about comic book writers/artists that go to Comic Conventions without new stuff.

Why does it matter? Does the fact that he doesn't update often anymore make his stuff any less great? I'm sure he's got his own reasons, like a day job or family or something. AFAIK, he's not one of the self-sustaining ones like Penny Arcade or Questionable Content or Megatokyo (which suffers from the same 3-update-a-month-maybe syndrome).

Visit him, tell him you love his work, ask him why he doesn't update more often (politely ask him).

I disagree with the OP.

If someone used to do something great, than their insight and commentary on current situations will be more accurate than those that are currently doing (but perhpas not to the same degree as the person that no longer does it)

Perhaps this author even discusses why he no longer creates comics? Perhpas there is something larger in the works?

On any given update he promises a comic coming up. On any given update, he's talking about some con he went to or is going to. On any given update, he's pulling our chain.

These guys make money on merch. These guys make money on advertising. Who deserves to make money when they aren't even doing it anymore? I know this is just the bitching of somebody who got something for nothing but still...

The fact that he goes to cons and has a booth there to show off his non-existent work is bull****. On any given day, a comic artist who loved the art enough to build up a fan base should prefer to make a comic than go to a con with a bunch of stinky ******** which he'll inevitably complain about in the most recent update.

This sort of thing is equivelent in my mind to nVidia's constant rebranding of the geforce 8 architecture. Trying to make a buck without doing anything... and most of you got mad about that. Maybe you don't get it.

www.vgcats.com <-- great comic, but check it like, every 5 months as opposed to every week, because it's a waste of bandwidth if you do.

Then stop reading his comic. Why are you so worked up over this? If you don't like it, don't read it. Lord knows I've stopped reading webcomics that I've found consistently unfunny or just plain dumb.

You're not forced to read his comic, and you don't have to if you don't want to anymore. This is your power. Yelling about it in a forum isn't going to do you any good. Why don't you construct a polite email to send to the artist that states your displeasure? Do something productive with your anger instead of having an internet tantrum.

But how would that argument work anywhere else? That's like saying don't buy nVidia.

but that's exactly what he's saying. If you don't like something...Don't buy it. It's pretty much always the default argument for topics like these.

When you buy Nvidia, You are voting for them with your money. You are giving them the O.K. to rebrand their previous products.

Same with VGcats, Every time you visit his site, you give his website hits. Some advertisers pay based on number of web hits, and not by clicking on the ad itself. Or at least, the more hits a website gets, the website can get better advertisers.

stop going to his site. Don't give him the web hits, don't give him the advertising money. Eventually, if enough people get annoyed at his lack of updates, One of two things will happen. Either he will quit making comics all together, and the sit becomes nothing more than an old archive, gathering less and less hits each month, slowly losing advertising money. And as all that happens, people forget about VGcats, and stop buying his stuff. Eventually, he becomes nothing more than a relic of the past.

That, or he finally updates his website, and starts pumping out comics again. Money is very persuasive. If his cash flow begins to fade away, you can almost bet that the updates will begin to flow like water again.

and honestly, that's all you can do. Other than that, you can tell others not to visit his site, or buy his stuff. Use Reddit's gaming section or something. That's about the best you can do.
