Friend has a newish HP Intel quad which hates VMWare for virtual SMP *nix folding. Gives a VT folding error and to fix that in the BIOS, however he can't change anything in the BIOS. Anyway he can run multi-core CPU folding along with his GPU efforts with a 260-216 without a penalty in Vista HP? Thanks guys.:)
BTW, I'll try to get him here for a first hand account of his troubles with loading Ubuntu VM. The VM starts but *nix gives the error.

He's tried everything.
Sounds a bit like his BIOS needs to be upgraded.
Yes, the GPU client should have it's priority raised one notch, however, so it keeps getting preferential treatment from the cpu. (make it "Low", instead of "Lowest Possible" or "Idle")

Is virtualisation enabled in the BIOS
Have you set the ethernet to bridged

BIOS is up to the latest release but he can't change anything in there according to him. I'll tell him to do so with the MPICH 6.23 console version. May as well get some extra points going while we figure this out. I will really try to get him in here, too much gets lost in the translation.;) Thanks all.
Poor guy is :bang head:bang head

Well, he had no problems getting Windows 7 going in VPC just getting Ubuntu going in VM. I have to assume that it is bridged, I stressed it enough but it can't hurt asking again eh?:)
How would one reset the clock if you can't change "anything" in BIOS. I've never seen one where you have no adjustments.

Same thing happened to me 4 days ago with the latest Windows Update.
When I restarted VM, it said exactly that - VT is not enabled, blah... blah... blah, even though BIOS was never touched and in fact was on.
I could not get it restarted for some reason.
I had to trash VM and started over from scratch. What sucks arse was, both SMPs were at 94% :bang head

Also in the Ubuntu VM setup on the Ethernet disable IPv6 this some time causes problems when connecting
