I am running athlon 1.4 TB stock on sisoft burn wizard temps are mb average 43c-cpu average 49.5. Question is will changing stock hs fan to larger one drop temp. Room temp is around 80 deg

It depends a lot on what your stock fan is, what your heatsink is, what the rest of your airflow is ...

But the short answer is yes. Increasing the airflow across your heatsink will almost always improve cpu temps.

Lots of suggestions. But in order to make much sense we'd have to know what your setup is.

What mobo and processor do you have?
What heatsink and fan do you have?
What other fans do you have and where are they in your case? (basically a description of how air flows through your case.)

Without knowing these things I can't really make suggestions. Not all heatsinks fit all motherboards. Not all fans fit all heatsinks. Depending on your setup your problem may not be your heatsink.

Depends on what you have now. If its just stock you probably want a new one, But don't despair! theyre are some that are fairly reasonably priced.

The Glacier II (or I) and Sk-6 are both excelant and they are around 30-35 bucks or so. and they are both great performers. You could get something like an alpha pal 8045 or Mine =) the Swiftec MCX-462, but theyre a bit higher (I paid about 70 bucks form swiftec) Great performers though.

But you should be able to find A good decent hsk for 25-35 bucks. theyres a good hsf review on the front page too if you wanted to do some more comparison.

my case has 1 80m fan on the side intake, 1 80 front exhaust this one i am getting ready to put more air holes in the front of the case. ps fan rear. I have a full tower case.

THe 8045 is a great heatsink, but it doesn't fit on all motherboards. You should check to make sure it will fit on yours before you buy it. You'll also need a fan to go with it. How noise tolerant are you?

The only way might be to describe it. Usually though they don't have identifiers on them. But IF it is an generic heatsink you can almost be guaranteed its poop.

You can get a glacier II for 33.75 you just have to be sure it fits ( http://millennium-thermal.com/dimensions.htm )

And the airflow, 1 80 in and out it kinda skimpy your probably not pushing enough air through the case. So more fans in the case would definitly help.

It would help with maybe a description of the heatsink however. Maybe me or Nihili might be able to identify it by that.

There's a compatibility list herehere (http://www.micforg.co.jp/mb_inf_pal8045e.html) but your board isn't mentioned either way. So there's two things to do.

First look at your motherboard. THe 8045 and Sifty mount directly to the mobo. Look for four small holes around the socket. They should be about the size of the mounting holes for the mobo. If you don't have them, then you can't use either the 8045 or the swifty.

Second, if your mobo does have the mounting holes, the heatsink may still not fit. On my Shuttle I had to slightly modify the sink to make it fit. Your best bet is to post a thread asking if anyone knows if the mobo is compatible, maybe someone has tried it. If that doesn't get an answer, then we can measure the clearance around your socket and get a pretty good idea if there are any obstructions.

good luck,

newegg has the pal8045 and a delta 80mm fan for 47.00 i think thats the way to go, cause down the road i,ll be changing the mb to a soyo dragon plus or the shuttle ak35

Oh, about the fans. If you're serious about noise not being an issue then you want the Delta 80mm 68cfm fan. If you are deaf and live alone, then get the Delta 80mm 80 cfm model.

On the other hand, if you don't have a hearing problem I recommend the Sunon 80mm 50cfm fan. These are what I have. I turned out to be less noise tolerant than I thought, so I've turned them down to 7 volt until I can build a rheostat system for them.

newegg lists the delta at 47.1 cfm will that do. and my mobo does have the 4 holes under the hs

Nope, wrong Delta. For max performance you want the 68 or the 80 cfm models. Newegg might not carry them. But be warned that most people describe the 68 as like having a hair dryer on full blast right next to you. I've seen sites refuse to review the 80cfm model because it's intolerably loud. I'd get the Sunon 50cfm over the 47cfm delta.

There's a good selection of fans here (http://www.kdcomputers.com/exec/categoryBrowse?m=25) including all three of the fans I've mentioned. I've done a lot of business with KDComputers and they've been very good to work with. THey carry the 8045 for $38 and they at least used to have a deal that orders of $50 or more had free shipping. So if you swaped all your fans for higher performance models you could take advantage of that (if they still have it).

Ok, now on to whether it will fit.

The 8045 is 80mm square. So the best way to check is to take off your current sink (with the computer off of course). Then take one of your 80mm fans and center it on those mounting holes. Check to see if there's anything that might potentially be in the way. If you're lucky you'll have a lot of clearance around the fan. If so, then it should fit. If the fit is tight, you might be able to slightly mod the sink to get it to fit. But I'd start a thread to see if anyone else has done it for that mobo first.

Check and see if theyre are any Capacitors VERY close to the socket. this becomes and issue with the 8045..

Oh BTW. just for informational sake. They redesigned the mcx-462 swiftec. IT will now fit requardless of model (i have the a7a266 with those really close capacitors and it fits now)

But I belive that you can mod the alpha with a dremel to make it fit even if you have capacitors close to the socket. theyre should be instructions on the website.

The aluminum base is pretty soft. I actually modded mine with an x-acto knife. But a dremel would have been better.
