Hello all, I just picked up a SATA Western Digital 1TB HDD to add as a second storage for my smaller 160GB primary drive. The hardrive isn't being recognized in Bios. It's as if its not even there. I've triple checked all the connections. All ports are fine, as well as cables. Is the HDD dead? Or does my motherboard MSI X58 Pro not recognize it for some other reason. There also doesn't seem to be a setting in the BIOS to auto-detect new HD's
I'd appreciate it greatly if you could at least lead me in the right direction,
Thanks in advance,

Not trying to be smart but did you connect the power? Sometimes we overlook the obvious. If all else fails reset the CMOS and see if it shows up.

Do you have the drive connected via the ICH10R or the JMB363 controller?

The Drive is connected to the ICH10R. My power cable is connected. Tried making sure the PSU was providing power, and it is. Tried doing a million things with the various Western Digital Utilities (Data Lifeguard Tools) I know its a BIOS issue, but I just don't know what to do about it, except wait for a new version. The Bios is just absolutley refusing to recognize a second hardrive. Also I updated the Bios using MSI Live Update, but it was the same BIOS because it said no new updates available. (So I'm assuming I have the latest version)

do you have another computer to test it on? do you have another drive you can try?

I DO NOT have another computer to test, nor do I have another drive. Wish I did so I could eliminate the possibility of the HDD's functionality. THere seems to be a restriction for my bios to not recognize such a large HDD. I've heard that the only way to go around this is to use a drive overlay, which Western Digital has a utility but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Have you tried contacting either MSI or WD for support?

All is solved. The HDD was dead. Picked up 1TB Seagate instead.
