i just downloaded the folding@home client and when i run it it only uses 1 of my 4 cores? is there a way to fix this?
i think i could run 4 instances of folding@home and give each instance a different machine ID- would this work

ah and if anyone knows, is it possible to run folding on cpu and gpu at the same time?

Have a look through the stickies, we've got most of the beginning stuff simplified there. The regular client is a uni-processor client and uses one core, you'll need to run 4 instances each with different machine ID's to use all 4 cores. Alternatively, you can try WinSMP or using Ubuntu in VMware to make 2 VM's running Linux SMP for the most points possible out of your quad. Your GPU is also GPU2 capable which is pretty easy to setup compared to SMP stuff. Yes, you can run them at the same time!! superb, but I think ATI uses one full CPU core to feed the gpu, otherwise nvidia cards barely use any CPU anymore.

oh and WELCOME to Team 32!!

Like Klear said, you will get the most points with 2 VM's (virtual machines) running Ubuntu and the GPU2 client for your video card. The stickies do a pretty good job of describing how to set it up. If you don't want to go that route, you need to run the WinSMP client and the GPU2 client. Both of these will get you more points than running the uni-processor client. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

ok, so if i was to run two virtual machines, what would be in each one?

ooo i got the smp client running, useing the guide in the sticky - but while that is running, do i just run the gpu client along side it?

Yes, you can do that... Just set GPU machine id to a different # than smp. and in the setup, set the gpu client to 'slightly higher priority' to make sure it gets the cycles it needs..

and, Thanks for Folding
