i recently put in a sata hdd that had an installation of ubuntu on it. i have activated the proper sata port in my bios and the power supply is functioning. the drive works in my other pc as the main drive, but in the pc in question does not detect the drive in computer. if it matters i am running vista home premium

i have used this drive in here before but it was blank at the time. i am trying to format it now to use it for back up.

:welcome: to the forums!

What motherboard are you running? Have you selected Sata or AHCI for the drive in the Bios settings?

If you're running 32bit OS download this (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2529&DwnldID=17269&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng) driver and extract it to a floppy and use the F6 option and install the proper diver for the chipset. It should be recognized after that.

EDIT: Sorry, fixed link.
