i'm a bit tired of hearing the noise by the fans 2 feet away when i sleep. you guys think this works?

Really the only sound absorbtion mat I have seen yet, DynoMat is also referred, but that is for vibrations, not sound. I say go with the stuff, I might end up going with it as well, got that PAL8045 with 80MM Delta on it's way.

To my mind this product looks rather similar to the mat sheet more commonly refered to as dynomat or punchmat expecially on the Alanta OC site, and as such is more than likely a damper than a true sound proofing product. The reviews are vauge imho and lack a serious scientific procedure to back up the suggested results, where are the sound levels before use and after use?. The product has also NOT been compared to other sound proofing materials and dampers such as dynomat so it is most certainly unclear as to how effective this actually is.

There is so much information missing from these reviews such as checking to see if there was any temprature increases, These are not at all good scientific reviews imho, and as such I prefer to call them 'opinions' due to the lack of factual evidence to back up the presented results and conclusions

Dynamat is for vibrations, not sound absorbtion. You hear those cars going up and down the street, the subwoofers, the loud speakers. If Dynamat did what everyone thinks it does, you shouldn't be able to hear that, especially at that distance.

Dynamat is used to prevent rattling/vibration caused by speakers and subwoofers. You can tell which cars do and don't have dynamat, especially if the subwoofer(s) are in the trunk.

I'm going to buy this stuff and check it out for myself, but what is Including VAT, Excluding VAT mean?

VAT = Value Added Tax

Dynamat is nothing more than a trade name for sound dampening sheets used by the car audio industry, an alternative is Punchmat by Rockford Fosgate they work by altering the resonance frequency of the pannel and can be obtained from all good car audio dealers. The large SPL (Sound Pressure Level) producing vehicles generally ignore this type of material and change the resonance frequency of the pannel by welding in additional metal or using composite sprays.

In fitting these matting materials to a computer case, you can alter the noise level slightly, however this is only because the products offer greater noise asorbsion than the metal of the case (NOTE: lining the insides of your case with carpet creates a noise reduction for the same reason, however it does not mean this is a good idea)
I have yet to see any real evidence that any of these products or those reviewed on the URL's listed at the top of the page offer any major noise reduction to the PC user that warrents the price charged.

I'm getting a system, and it's going to have fans, this is one certain thing, if anything ever is, I'm not a big enough risk-taker to go WC yet, so nooise might me a slight issue.
I've got the left over rolls of cork mat that i'm considering using as a sound dampener/absorber on the inside of the case.
I've heard of them being used in cases, and I've also heard of them being used in household uses where you wanted to prevent sound from travelling through say a door. so you cover the one side with it and it helps.

I've also heard that Cork is just a good aid in soundproofing.

Any coments, suggestions? slaps upside the head trying to get me to go in the right diretion?

I put Dynamat in my box and it reduced the (apparent) higher frequency noise, some reduction overall

spent $20 for 20 ft2 off eBay (delivered)

then spent $34 on 4 Silencer fans (20dba ea) which had a much greater effect

then spent $34 on a Silentdrive hd enclosure which had a HUGE effect

suggestion: attack the source of the noise you want to reduce

yeh. i've already replaced my sunon fans with silencers and panaflos.. every fan in my machines are below 30 dba except for the fan on the glaciator 2. heres my setup.
pc#1-
2 sliencers, 1 panaflo, 1 stock antec fan, GF2 fan

pc#2-
1 silencer, 1 stock antec, 1 panaflo, GF2 fan

i think i'm considering getting the PAL8045 so i can get a quieter 80mm fan on.

any other good suggestions for noise dampening devises? if anyone try the mats.. do tell how it is..

The problem also on some of the case that folks have (myself included) is the doors of the system are VERY snug against the side of the case. When I say this, I mean 1/2" or less. My thought would be (if you have the room/clearance) would be get some spray adhesive and use cork for the first layer and then put some Dynomat or Punchmat of whatever. This way you are getting rid of the high frequency noise with the Dynomat or whatever and you get the absorbing abilities of cork which would also act as a vibration counter. Just my $0.02. :)

well, when I get my rig, hopefully soon. I'll be modding the crap out of it, followed by adding in the cork, to see what kind of difference it makes

i bought carpet and the padding that goes under(that was scrap so i got it free) and colcked it in (i think thats how u spell it) it works really well althgoh it isnt allthat noticable because i have a fn hole right acrost form my 600mm delta screamer on my roc so the sound gets out but it cuts viberaton formfans and dampens sond slightly:D
