I'm thinking I may want to buy a copy of crysis maximum edition, the question is: will it have DRM. EA has made a vow to the public to no longer include DRM in new titles, they've followed through with this quite well: mirror's edge, prince of persia, and I want to say there's another that I personally purchased but I can't quite place it in my mind right now.

At any rate, EA's doing good by me now, with decent games sans drm. So that got me thinking, will maximum edition be sans DRM? If so, I'll buy a copy simply cuz. Anybody have any thoughts or facts regarding this?

you could always buy it on steam.. then do a backup so you can make your disk if you want

True, but even the steam version incorporates DRM.

I think EA still includes some DRM on their titles. There's some mentioning of SecureRom on my Mirror's Edge manual, though I didn't have to activate anything or the sort.

Must be some kind of passive activation. Doesn't bother me though.

There's good DRM and there's bad DRM. What don't you want on your system specifically, securom?

My opinion is all DRM is bad. But I confess, like just about anybody with a fast internet connection I've learned to enjoy steam. At first I hated that I had to have a special program to run HL2 and all that but it's become so much more, it's one of those things like PhysX that you really want to see become a standard feature in games. And the best part is it actually works in all the right ways.

Bad DRM in my humble opinion:

CD Checks: my DVD rom drive is not for holding a CD just to play a game. I do this on my 360 because my 360 pulls the data right off my PC. I had to pay 500$ for my hard drives, why in the world am I wasting my precious 1.9TB on those games if I have to still put the disks in?

Install limits: I reinstall windows way too often, and will most likely face a reinstall in the next month or two when I upgrade to a C2D and 750i, if not sooner if windows update decides to install the freaking 15.23 drivers when I'm not looking.

Calling home: This is acceptable when I'm connecting to to a server to play a net game of some sort. I completely understand if they're trying to protect thier hosting resources from people whom aren't legally owners of a license to thier product.

Anything that slows down the game: Seriously, cracked games run faster. How is this better for me?

Anything that gets in my way when I'm just trying to play a game or enjoy a good story is bad when I pay good money for my games. FEAR 2 installed to steam, what a treat, Mirror's Edge didn't require a CD check and didn't seem to ask for too much from me besides a CD key.

If Maximum Edition is something similar to Mirror's Edge I'll plop my money down on it without hesitation.

Whats different about crysis maximum edition?

For me I don't mind DRM as long as it doesnt install secret drivers, limit my installations, or phone home all the time. Granted I prefer my software to be without it, but I am fine as long as it satisfies those conditions.

steam has DRM but makes my life more convienient so i like steam

It's an ew product from EA, and potentially might lack the DRM since EA's new initiative is to have much less restrictive DRM.

I have to agree, the only DRM I am comfortable with is Steam.

I don't know about Crysis Ultimate Edition but I do know that Warhead comes with Securom and limits you to 5 installs.

Does this issue exist with steam?

Ubisoft makes Prince of Persia, not EA.

Maybe I'm mixing it up a bit then. I know that they both are looking at DRM skeptically right now.

How long until the next Crysis comes out?

Nobody knows yet. It depends on a few things. Crytek said their next engine is due in 2012, and that's about the same time the new gen consoles are coming out. They also said that their next Crysis games will no longer be PC exclusive. There have been demonstrations since last year showing the Crytek2 engine running on PS3 and X360, so I'd assume the next game will be before the new systems come out (otherwise why would they spend all this time and effort trying to port it to current gen).

sad. That's not a very good last boss. When I got there I thought "lame" and stopped playing. I figured there would be more game after that...

Kind of a short game. Should have been longer.

Yeh it's short if you play it on Easy. Play it on Delta, then it takes somewhat longer. ;)

that's any game.

Taking longer to waste enemies isn't the same as making more levels. Sure the levels are huge- but you rarely explore the whole level. Most people just go objective to objective.

Delta makes you to use the abilities of the suit and you have to play the game differently. It's how the game was intended. Play it on easy and you can forget about stealth, and go through the entire game just in armour mode, and go straight for the objectives like you said which is what most people do. Just look at the gameplay videos online, every single one is played by a novice - playing it like a regular shooter.

The harder difficulty setting makes a big gameplay difference. More so than most other FPSes.

Yep ^.

On easy I ran all over the place in strength and speed mode. Sprinted to most enemies and punched em or threw em. On the hardest mode it's completely suicidal to get into melee combat when multiple enemies are around, unless you get the jump on them first with stealth mode. Even then it's dicey. Easy mode isn't just faster cause enemies die faster, it's because you don't have to actually use tactics to do anything in the game.
