Intellimouse Explorer 3.0's left two buttons and games...

I just got one of those explorer 3.0 optical mice and for some reason can not config key assignments in quake3 engine games (i have only tried it in q3a and wolf) to the side buttons. i wanted to make the big side button next weapon and the small one previous weapon. anyone know how to get this to work?

I haven't tried it but I'd try using the software that comes with the mouse:

Enable "Program-Specific button assignments"
Assign the large & small thumb buttons to the keystoke that would tell the game to switch weapons"
