I am adding a water cooling setup to my system, and could use a bit of advice. Here is what I have decided on allready:

Danger Den Maze2
Lowpressure water drop small radiator
Rio 180 pump + Reservoir

Well I Have a Radeon 8500 and would like to cool that with water as well, have any of you addend a water cooler with a Radeon card, if so please tell me what you used, and pictures would be nice as well :D

Thanks for the help!

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!;)

Just a fore-warning.... I have a Rio 800 and am looking to upgrade before I add my gpu block... the Rios lose quite a few GPH after just the proc...;)

Does the Radeon have holes in the card for a mounting system or does it have to be put on with like adhensive compound?

You can also get someone to make it for you or buy a GPU block say from Koolance if they sell it seperately.

The Radeon doesnt have holes to mount a cooler like the GeForces do :( so i guess ill have to attach a waterblock with some thermal glue.

as for the pump, I am looking for something powerful enough to get through a CPU Block, a Video Block, and a Chipset Block, and I would prefer to have it as small and as quiet as possable. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help so far!

Yes watercooling the 8500, especially the RAM, is going to be a feat:

Want a good pump, go with Eheim (www.DangerDen.com) or Danner Mag Supreme.

Looks like im going to go with the model 2 like you suggested, it will give me the option of inline or submersed. Im gunna see if my local pet store has them before I order it online though.

Do you think I should water cool the ram with water, that would be very difficult, or go with the easier method of using regular RAM Sinks?

Like Vash said... watercooling those ram chips would be somethin... hmmm... maybe two rectangular blocks... one for each pair... is there more on the other side?

Yes, there are 4 chips on the back.

Hmmmm.... i'd say just put some ram sinks on there... you'd have hoses all over the place.

last time i looked, koolance's video card blocks are aluminum. Copper and aluminum in the same system willc ause problems with corroision no matter what you add to the water. If they have a copper version, go for that.

Water wetter works real ncie for my coper waterblock and alum radiator.

:eh?:

Well, the watter block I plan to use is copper, and i think the radiator is alum. What exactly is it that Watter Wetter does?

Yes, RAM Sinks will do.

Im going to place the radiator in the front of my case (lian-li PC68) using the two 80mm fans to cool the radiator:

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\001.bmp

after the air goes through the radiator should I make a duct for it to imidiatly leave the case, or should I just let it exit the back of the case through the air holes?

here is a pic of the radiator:

Perhaps the Black Ice radiator would be a better option because it is copper.

Its a bit more expensive, but I think I can handle that.

You could always do this for Heatsinks for the ram: http://www.lostcircuits.com/advice/cooler_radeon/
I'm planning on doing this myself when my 8500 arrives. An added bonus is that I found the couples for $0.58 each at a local plumbing store. I am going to do this with my old ATI All-In-Wonder and the 8500. A good table clamping vise at home depot is only $13.99 + tax as well. Just my $0.02. :)

Bladerunner (http://www.zytec.worldonline.co.uk/pictures/jpgs/asuswcmk2gmed.jpg) told me he will be making one for the 8500

If its anything like his others it will be nothing short of amazing.

Better to know someone THAT good also works:p

I'll tell you that a similiar L configuration will not be so easy as the Nvidia product, Look:

The 8500 has chips on both sides of the board and all kinds of things in the way.

Click here to see 8500 3d model to view back of card (http://www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/radeon_8500/)

Correct me if im wrong but the Nvidia card has 8 memory chips on one side.

But if anyones going to pioneer on this virgin territory Blade is the man for the job.

Water Wetter is an anti corrosive/anti bacterial agent you put in your water to protect your intercooling system.

It'll keep that fungus from growin and stuff and from the alumn and copper form messing each other up (havent heard or seen otherwise yet.)

Some people say it lowers their temp a bit too, others say they see no difference.

Buy it, use it (very little cause its meant for cars not pc's) and forget it till you need to change the water

:D

(might wanna do that in a WELL ventilated area too..ugh)

Hey Silversinksam, If Bladerunner mants to cool the other side, all he need to do is make other exactly like that and figure out some kind of clip that would hold them both in place (as a percation against that much heavy copper breaking free from the epoxy). I was thinking about htis problem last night and what Bladerunner came up with is A LOT more elegant than what I thought up. One problem with the design though is that hes going to need an extra set of tubes for the back unless he can have the flow coming into one and then flowing into the block on the back and out of the block on the back. That would only be one set uf tubes and if he did it right, he could use the connection tube from the front block to the back block as a clip like device as I mentioned above. Just some thoughts. :)
