a surge protector or a UPS (uninterrupted power supply)?
surge protector just helps prevent power spikes from frying your system. A UPS will keep your system running for a few mins (sorry, don't konw the metric version of mins :) ) while you have a chance to shut down your system. (some have an auto feature to shut down for you)
I believe APC is one of the best brands of UPS'.
thanks Shadow рс.
i was trying to talk about the surge protector. havent ever heard of ppl talking about them here and i have a really cheap cheap one. is it something ppl could recommend me a brand and model?
the ups is another thing. btw isnt it and a "no-break" the same thing?

probably just a language difference, but I've never heard of a "no break". Does sound very similiar to a UPS tho.
I'm using a SurgeMaster surge protector. I'd say the warranty would determin it's value. Mine comes with a $40,000 protection warranty (if it fails and my machine blows, they reimburse the cost), but couldn't recommend any specific brands.

I'm using an apc 500 watt ups. warranty $10,000. looks like a surge protector far as the shape goes not abig square like most makes it easier to get it out of the way
Using a Newpoint Powersurge w/ 150,000 Lightning insurance.
There is no really specific good brand me thinks, just get one in your budjet and sounds good :D
Radio Shack will sell some or CompUSA I'd bet.
My power surge is good for cable, telephone lines and the power plugs.

One thing that I would recomend for you though is to find one that excepts RJ-45 (ethernet), phone line (RJ-10?), cable (RG-6) and has at least 6 grounded plug areas which are spaced far enough apart that you can put a big Zip wall block right next a speaker wall block without covering extra open sockets! Just my $0.02.
