A couple years ago I replaced my HP motherboard with an Abit. I was having some glitches the other day an decided to format my HD. Now I can't boot to the recovery disks supplied by HP. Is there something I can do to install from the recovery cd or will I have to buy a new OS?

Thanks in advanced,
Eddie O.

I would contact HP about it.

Good luck

I think the reason you can not use the recovery disk is it`s looking for the O.G. MoBo. Since you have the Abit in, then most likely even if you contact H.P bout this it will not help.

My guess is that the recovery won't work with a new mobo, so you will have to buy a new os or find a way to get it off of that cd...

Yeah. HP recovery disks look for something in the bios. I used to have one before I got into building them myself. (I will never buy another one from them.) I upgraded the bios with a 3rd party .BIN The computer worked fine, but when I had to use the restore CD a couple months later, it didn't recognize it as an HP and wouldn't restore.

Did you try downloading the proper boot disk files from bootdisk.com to make a normal boot disk?

That won't work with proprietary OS's like that from HP. If HP can't give you a workaround, your only choice is to buy a new OS. Had the same trouble some years ago with Packard Bell.

Ya know... what's crappy about that is that you are PAYING for the software. YOU own it. BUT you will never be able to use it again if you don't go with an HP! I can understand this with windows... I mean it is supposed to only be used with one computer ever... But with the other bunlded software... ARGH! Sorry about the frustration. I have felt your pain.

I was wondering why nobody had mentioned it. My bad.
