hi guys. i'm pretty new to o/c'ing, and as of right now i just have my fsb upped to 140 to run my 1800 @ 1.61ghz. it's extremely stable, but i'm wondering if there's something i can do about the noise and temps (38 idle / 43 load). i've seen "funnels" on various o/c'ing web sites, and think i know their purpose.

i'm guessing they mount up to the heatsink to allow a larger fan (hopefully quieter one, in my case) to be attached to the stock mounting holes on it.

i have a thermaltake volcano 6cu+ right now, and the 7k fan is a tad loud for my taste. i understand that o/c'ing and "loud for my taste" can seem to be an oxymoron, but am wondering if there's something i can do about it :)

my question is, do any of you know of any funnels (and where i can get one from) that will mount up to the holes on my heatsink? i'm not too swift at modding things like that, so a stock fit would be much appreciated. also, any recommendations on a fan for this setup that would be quieter than the one i'm using now? would doing something like this be beneficial for me? if you need any more info besides what i've said and what is in my sig, let me know :) tia

Here's a site where you can get one:
http://www.crazypc.com/products/fans/fans.htm
it's the 7th down. Also, a good fan is the following:
Sunon KD1208PTBX-6A - 4pin, 12vdc, vall bearing, 3900rpm, 50.6cfm, 40.5dBA
It is on the same site and in fact on the same page! Just hit the 80mmx25mm fan link highlighted in lime green and it is the last in the catagory. One thing I have noticed about these is the fact that since there is not alot of clearance between the fan and the adapter, it cause alot of back pressure. If you can make your own, iyou might be able to stop this. Hope this helps. :)

i know what those 6cu+ sounds like! they are anoying!!!
and if you didnt realize the dba on it i think that the 6cu+ has a 38dba and that fan that he recomended had 40!
so be careful what you buy!
i found some cheap sleve fans that run 30dba and 30cfm at bestbyte.net

and they have the adapters too! the aluminmum anodized ones wich i dont know what ones are best....

I wouldnt suggest them funnels/adaptors. They really are not that efficient in getting the airflow from a 80mm to 60mm without losing pressure & CFM. I have mentioned this pretty often & I will say it again. What you want is a Velocity Stack that will pull cold air from the outside of your case directly onto your HS. You can mount it on the side of your case with the fanblowing thru the stack or have the fan mounted onto your heatsink then have the stack above it like a duct to pull in the air from the outside.

a. 80mm 80CFM(rheostat or 7V to keep the noise down) mounted to the side of your cas using the VS to get the air to flow properly onto the HS;

b. 60mm 50CFM(rheostat or 7V to keep the noise down) mounted on the HS using the VS as a intake pipe for cold air.

2ltr COke bottle is all you need:beer:

*EDIT* If the pics don't show up later then the mods must have deleted them to save bandwidth or because they think it's a load of BS:eek: :D
